I have been dealing with frequent panic attacks daily to sometime 3 a week and since they have started (June 2017) I have lost 20kg. I look like a thin rat. My doctor had me on 30mg of mirtazapine to increase the weight but also stop my anxiety and it has not worked. Now he wants me on lexapro 10mg. My question is with everything else ruled out with 4x blood test looking for everything to endoscopy and stomach ultrasounds to brain mri can panic attacks cause this much weight loss? I must admit I don’t eat like I used too. When I have a bad panic attack I can have a bad bout of nausea that can last a day or two. Your advice or experience would be appreciated
Hi Ryan. I went to see my doctor due to feeling sick, lack of appetite and having lost too much weight. I had some tests but all clear. My doctor put me on fluoxetine but that made me worse and after 3 weeks I came off them the side affects were just awful for me. I continued to struggle with food and went to see a dietitian. She made a few suggestions.....smoothies made with double cream, complain/meal supplement powder, milk and banana to have between meals being one. After 3 weeks the weight is slowly going back on and I feel less sick and my appetite has returned. The less you eat the worse you feel as your body will struggle. Sweet Popcorn has loads of calories, I found that easy to pick at. These may not be nutritious but, getting the weight back on is important, make sure you also have healthy stuff with your main meals. Hope this helps a little. For me I began to think I had a food phobia and was going mad, I was so worried but hopefully things are getting better. Let me know how you get on.
