Parabens In metronidazole vaginal gel

I’ve been prescribed metronidazole vaginal gel for bacterial vaginosis and the pharmacy gave me a gel that contains parabens. Parabens have been linked to breast cancer and have an effect on hormones and are banned in the EU. How can I put a medicine in my vagina to help heal me that may also give me cancer or make the endometriosis in me worse? Is it possible to get metronidazole gel without parabens and if so, how can I go about doing this? I really want to clear up the BV and definitely don’t want to cause myself harm in the process.

I am so glad you mentioned this. I had no idea the metro gel contained parabens. I used it about a year ago, didn’t help. I’m not sure why doctors prescribe half of the things they do which almost always don’t help the problem, but somehow make it worse.. I don’t know about any gels that are paraben free but you could check your local health food store and see if they have some kind of PH balancing gel or probiotic infused vaginal gel. Or check online, good luck. 👍🏻🍀

I used the metro gel about a year ago too and really wish I would have looked to see what was in it! I remember it was a lot more expensive than the oral antibiotics. It didn't even work! I had to end up getting the antibiotics. I recently got it again but was able to heal myself naturally. I think you should do what you feel is right for you. If I could go back I wouldn't use it!

Hi I just came from the pharmacy and luckily read the ingredients before send that up the chute inside me.  I mean really, I go out of my way not to buy /use lotions for my body with  parabens and propylene glycol so why would I put it up my vagina.  I’m sure my new gyno won’t like hearing from me tomorrow.   What did you end up doing to cure the BV?
