Hi all,
I am new to this forum and have a question regarding Vitiamin B12 levels. I was tested at 283. Normal range is between 200 to 1100. But I have the terrible symptoms of pin prickly skin from head to toe. I have ruled out a lot of other possiblities. And think that this could be the cause of it.....I have been taking Vitamin B12 supplements and was wondering if I should ask for the injections? Symptoms can be quite annoying.
Have you taken the supplements as tablets? If so, they may not work if you have a problem with absorbtion in the gut. You can buy nasal or under tongue sprays that work better. Your level of 283 isn't very high, some doctors now treat anything under 400! In Japan anything under 500 is treated. If you do take a supplement yourself it will boost your levels, so if you need a further blood test you won't get a reading low enough for the GP to begin injections. Marion
Thanks for reply. I'm taking B12 50 mag quick dissolve, chewable tablets. Just stayed about 8 weeks ago.
You also need to be sure your other vitamins are at optimal levels for the B12 to be absorbed. So a good quality multivitamin everyday, if you don't already take one. If you do go back to the GP get tested for iron, ferritin, folate and Vit D, as well as B12. Marion
