Hi All. I've been reading many of the hip stories and amazed at the help and support that comes from responses. I was hoping for some help with my question.
I'm waiting for a right THR and having my hip replacement seminar tomorrow & pre op accessment next Monday - does anyone have any idea how long I may have to wait before I go in for operation.
hello akawestie, depends what country you are in and if in UK it varies from anything from 10 to 20 weeks and beyound! - however if you are having a pre-op assesment I had this 10days before op last July. So I'm suprised that you have not had admission date.
Regards
Arthur
Hi, welcome to the hippie site. After my pre-op and assessment I was told that my hospital appointment team would contact me to arrange a op date....but they did not. I phoned them three weeks after the pre-op and had no notes t contact me. So over the phone same call, they found my records and set a date. My advice would be to be prepared to chase if you no hear after a while. My wait from setting the date to op was two months . Another tip have a good chat about post op physio and how much you will receive. Hope goes well.
Hi went too see consultant in November and had op beginning of march! I could have had it sooner, but I went into a private hospital under the NHS! Regards Amanda
Hi westie , i had pre op two weeks before christmas then got op for mid feb, cancelled on friday before due in sunday, got apt for op march 9th had to go for repeat bloods as the results only Valid so long. Now at six weeks all wotrh it
. Over 18 months from first seeing consultant! But i went through special clinic, hip preservation service, couldnt preserv mine but there we go.
Atb , jay.
Depends where you are. I was given a 6 week window on NHS and admitted within 4.
it does depend on where you live but after my initial consultation in December, I was on the the table mid March (Grantham Lincolnshire). Ask at your assessment; the satff there will have a rough idea on when you can expect your op.
I had my pre op 2 weeks before my op. It's pretty much a lottery depending on where you live. Keep asking them for a date as there is a time limit between pre op & op.
Are you in the UK?
Hi and good luck!
It depends too on how you are healing, as they can delay it if healing is on the slow side, and there might be a sudden 'gap' if you're doing weell: trust your surgeon and physio and GP: and ask the questions you need to.
I was due for late May, then suddenly offered late Feb at two weeks notice, and said YES
Bye

Hi
Welcome to Hippie Land. I have been on this forum since just after I had my op and so glad I found it as they are a great bunch, very supportive and offer lots of help and advice.
As everyone else has said it can depend on where you are in the UK. I saw the consultant in October and had my op in January but I could have had it done in December but couldn't organise things in time. However things have changed in the last few months due to funding etc. I was going to have my second one done in July but I have been told I will be lucky to get it done this year.
If you are going to attend seminar and pre-op in e next few days then in theory you should be getting a date soon. But I agree with those who say if you haven't heard from the hospital soon then don't be afraid get in touch and ask when they are going to do the op.
Hope you hear from them soon. If you have time check out the advice from other Hoppies on what questions to ask to help you pre and post op.

Hi.
See my doc last sept told would be in 18 weeks then I ran in January to be told should of been that month but would be February then in February they rang to ask if I mind going to the Nuffield I said ok I then got a call to say I am having it on the 1st of May had pre op last week so in all will be over 30 weeks by the time I goin
It really depends in what area you live. Here in the UK it varies. I had my pre-op assessment about 10 days before the operation. When I received a date for my pre-op, I was also give a date for the operation. Some people have a pre-op assessment and then have to wait for a date for the op. You could possibly be told a date when you go for the pre-op. It just depends what the hospital's usual practice is. Good luck.
Hi again,
So, as many answers as there are hippies!
Good luck and hope this has helped

My right THR surgery is booked for 29th April. My appointment with the orthopaedic consultant was on 24th February.I had my pre op assessment on 10th April and attended joint school four days later. My aids for after the operation eg raised toilet seat arrived yesterday. I believe that I have been very fortunate. In the South Kent health area patients are generally given a date for surgery and a date for the pre op assessment at the same time.It appears that no two areas of the UK are the same on this.
Thankyou for your advice. I'm in Essex, England.
Thanks Kev. I'm in Essex. I have little faith in my hospital trust. I have had to chase them for nearly 18 months.
I truly hope that I have my op asap so I can return to work that I've been away from for far too long.
Thanks
Hi Amanda,
Interesting Comment, hope you are recovering well.
Thanks
Hi Ann, I'm in the southeast. I'd be very happy if that is my time line.
Hope you're recovering well.
