PCO or ?

I had cataract surgery in both eyes about 4 months ago. Just in the last few weeks, I'm noticing some graininess in my vision, a little bit of visual acuity loss for distance vision, and difficulty seeing in low light conditions. Is this PCO? The graininess or gritty vision seems to be the most noticeable symptom; my vision sort of looks like the grain you see when you try and shoot video with your phone camera in low light. The vision is sort of like cataracts, but only loosely. To complicate matters, I also have something called EBMD (or more colloquially, map dot fingerprint), so that may be causing some refractive errors as well. What were other's visual experience for those that had PCO? How would you describe it?

I developed PCO in my right eye about 3 years after cataract surgery in that eye.
The symptoms were increasing cloudiness of the vision in that eye and obvious increased halos around lights at night.
I didn’t see any graininess etc so that might be caused by something else than PCO which is clouding of the membrane around the lens.

When I got the symptoms and they increased I reported them to my eye doctor at my next regular dilated eye exam and he looked closely and could confirm significant PCO. So I’d suggest getting a full dilated eye exam and have the eye doctor look for PCO specifically during that exam.

Sounds like it could be Cystoid Macular Edema (inflammation of the Macula). I would tell your surgeon about the symptoms and ask for an OCT scan. It could also be PCO but usually (not always but usually) that takes longer than a few months to start.

You may want to google Visual Snow Syndrome to see if that fits your symptoms. I have not had PCO but it is claimed to look just like a cataract loss of sharpness in the vision. If you google it and then click on images you can get illustrations of what Visual Snow Syndrome is said to look like.
