can anyone shed some light please had a hip replacememnt 6 days ago and im in excrutiating pain since leaving theatre. My surgeon came round the following morning and told me i had sustained a fracture ( this is now disclosed as two fractures one each side of the socket) and will require further surgery in 4 days time ....has anyone else suffered this complication and if so what was your recovery like
poor you Tracey, so sorry, I've not heard of this before, unless your bones are brittle. Good luck with your surgery in 4 days time, hope you have sufficient painkillers.
veronica
thanks , yes im on oramorph tramadol and paracetamol which seems to be working though the total bedrest is making things difficult getting stiff and sore from lying too long in one position
oh and no previous evidence of brittle bones thats why im concerned
how old are you?
Dear Tracey,
please keep in touch, tell us how the surgery went. Has your surgeon explained why this has happened?
Best of luck, I'll be thinking of you
66 last sunday
no he hasnt , but i have insisted that i speak to the actual consultant before my op ( btw have been told it will be the consultat operating on wednesday
Young then! I'm 61 and on the waiting list. Ask the surgeon why this happened and if you feel you can't, find someone. Really assertive to sit with you and ask on your behalf.
good luck with your surgery hope it will be before long i will ask when i see him ive googled fracture complications and they all seem to focus on the femur i havent found any that mention the pelvis so i just want to know how long this will set me back ( im already stiffening up an muscles are deterioratig being stuck in bed for 10 days )
Are you still in hospital if you are have they got you on one of those beds that vibrate to stop bed sores
yes still in hospital and no just on the inlating stockings to stop dvt
Hi Tracey, sorry that this has happened to you.
I had my second hip done on weds and they broke my femur, luckily surgeon was able to repair it during operation. Yes it does give me more pain than the first one!
They habe told me to use crutches for 6 weeks then it should be fine.
Hopefully if they can fix yours you should be about the same, they are very good at fixing bones these days.
Good luck with your operation. Sending you a hug.
Hi Tracey
I am so sorry this has happened to you. I hope that they can sort you out. Make sure you write down any questions you want to ask before you meet your consultant. That will help with some of the bordom. Make sure when you talk to your consultant you make it very clear you want to know why this has happened. You do have a legal right to see your notes so you could even ask while you are there to see them so you can make sure they tell you the truth and not try to hide any mistakes on there part.
yes thanks fr the suggestion, i have begun making a list of questions already but seems silly in retrospect as im sure they explained most of them before the op
this is tragic terrible and negligent. What does he mean? You fractured yourself while anesthetized.... HE fractured you. Please assert yourself and ask him how HE Managed to break your pelvis in two places. Realise you have to have him on side if he's operating on. you, but are you sure you want him doing it if he's accident prone. Perhaps you would get better resolution if you spoke to the PALS office. Tell them you are appointing a solicitor. To break the pelvis once is disastrous, but twice, must constitute negligence.
we will never know what goes on in theatre UNTIL THEY INSTALL CCTV. Surgeons can get away with......... your situation is unthinkable. How absolutely helpless you must feel. with all those complications growing exponentially. Get after him to and get sfriend/family to obtain copy of your notes

Hi Tracey
Mine wasnt the same but i I can but in here.....dont know if anyone can help.
Four weeks post op I was doing an NHS exercise {abducting my leg to strengthen the muscle} I had done it during my first THR and this was four weeks on from the op. Anyway there was a crack, leg gave way and Iwas taken into hospital ......I was told I had fractured the greaer trochanter bone?? and it would take a long time to heal so I would be on crutches. A few months later I saw myconsultant {one that has done both THR's and I see fairly often} He said that it would never heal and crutches would be a permanent thing. He showed me were one bone had moved too far away to every knit together with the other bone.
This was February 2014!!!!
It doesnbt sound like yours Tracey and hopefully it isnt. You've got sound advice from other.
Hope everything goes well.
Keep us updatded
Love

Hi Tracey .... I am so sorry too ... just don't know what to say - seems like great advice from everybody - I keep you in my prayers and sending you healing rays -
warm hug Tracey ... be well ...
Hi Tracey,
So sorry to hear what has happened but hope this helps. I am 62, previously very fit, had been riding a spirited horse the morning of my accident then whilst puppy training he ran under my feet, in an effort not to harm him I landed on concreate with a huge thump. Cutting a long story short, my GP receantly retired, new GP did not think it was worth expense of Xray so I went 2.5 months in agony prior to changing GP and getting an Xray. Results: multiple pelvic fractures, femur three fractures, socked destroyed, bones displaced.
I had a thr the next morning but the delay had caused massive muscle loss and now 3 months on I still need one stick but doing my exercises is building it back up. You will need to take it slowly but will be fine in the end.
Sending you big hugs and love, will keep you in my thoughts, Dot xx
