Four years ago my son contracted a streptococcal blood infection and had his penis amputated. After living with a suprapubic catheter for four years he now has the use of his urethra back and though he did not have reconstruction, no longer needs a catheter. He does want to have reconstruction if possible mostly for ease and comfort. My question to the forum, especially patients who have undergone reconstruction, is how effective, comfortable is a reconstructed urethra?
