Personas diagnosticadas con osteoporosis grave, con un puntaje T de -3.5 o peor

Hi Evelyn

I was diagnosed with OP following the fracture of both my wrists last December.  After the Dexa scan, I was told I have OP and my t score -4.

I have been taking the ical-d3 ever since, tried the AA and promptly came off it!  For reasons similar to everyone else!

I had to take steroids as a child as I am also a chronic asthmatic, and am seeing a rheumatologist next month, as my gp - seems to be someone difference now my regular gp unfortunately left - just indicated you have a -4.  They understand why I came off the AA.  Be itneresting to see what the rheumatologist says.

I started HRT last October and my gp said that that should help over time to protect my bones a bit.

I also suffer with M.E./Fibro, asthma, OA, and have been taking slow release vitamin C for years which I am sure helps fight infections.  Also magnesium, K2 and Zinc (recommended by Colin), I have also started a more healthy regime and better eating habits.  I include oily fish - not keen on taste! lol - once a week and try and eat more fish anyway.  I eat a lot of chicken/turkey too.  I was on flaxseed oil a good few years ago but stopped it.  I would be interested in knowing other ppl's views on that as if it is helpful I will include it

I am a fan of turmeric and the golden paste homemade recipe which I take twice a day, and yes, it really does help with the pain and inflammation, just tastes horrible!! lol  Id be happy to msg you the golden paste recipe if you would like   It is easy to do, and includes coconut oil and black pepper as well as the turmeric.

It is very hard to try and do the right exercises, without harming our bones, and in my case muscles/soft tissue.  I hope you are in not too much pain at the moment.

kind regards Carrie

Hi Mary,

I so agree, it isn't always easy to remain positive, and I think we all have good and bad days.  All we can do is all we can do.

Interesting what you say about yoga class and pilates.  I was wondering about pilates or tai chi but am wary of joining a class, in case of doing myself an injury....

I know yoga is supposed to be so good for you, I think I was put off by tryng it once and straining a muscle!  Perhaps I should try again.

Do take care.

kind regards Carrie

Hi Pam,

I was diagnosed with OP after breaking both my wrists last December.  I suffer with OA too, as well as M.E./Fibro and asthma, so they believe at the moment that the steroids I took as a child - apparently they don't give to children under the age of 12 now - stunted and damaged my bone growth/strength.  I am seeing a rheumatologist next month so be interesting to see what they say.

Did you find an endocrinologist helpful?  Or the neurologist? And what is myacalcin spray?

I feel a bit like I am scrabbling around in the dark at times trying to work out what is best for me!  So all help useful in my mind to aid me in making the correct decisions for my health

I too am following a healthier diet and trying to take more exercise as and when I can....without doing myself a mischief! lol

I hope you are not suffering too much.

kind regards Carrie

Hi Layne,

MSM I have heard of, but had forgotten about.    Do you think it is helping?

kind regards Carrie

Hi Pam/Mariana,

I'd be interested to know too!

kind regards Carrie

Hi Pam,

Apologies if I missed your answer to Patty, bu I would be interested to know too   If hyaluronic acid will really help.....think I responded about the msm in a different post.....thank you for your help

kind regards Carrie

Hi Pam,

Me again!  lol

Apologies if I repeat myself....you say you take calcium, magnesium, D3 and zinc in one tablet, is that prescribed or do you buy?

I take the ical-d3, a separate magnesium and zinc, along with k2, along with a mutli tablet that includes boron, etc.  I'd be very interested in knowing the joint complex with hyalauric acid and msm you are taking if you don't mind ?

I was diagnosed with OP last December and suffer with OA too.   My t scores were given as -4 so I know I'm not good and would love to get down to the osteopenia level through natural means   If we can beat this, or reduce our scores it has to be a good thing

kind regards Carrie

Hi Kathleen,

I'm reading the posts below with interest   Being a -4 it is quite scary to think one can do damage so easily   Yes, I get anxious too....being an 'invisible illness' so to speak unless one breaks a bone, I am getting the view that some ppl, not on here I hasten to add, consider me a moaning minnie! lol  But I would rather be cautious then do damage.

Multiple diseases do not help

I am seeing a rheumatologist next month so will update on what he says, especially since I am on HRT and am told by my GP that that will help protect me.....for now!

Do take care.

kind regards Carrie

I just looked up hyaloronic acid and I guess it is used for osteoarthritis as it may help with joint lubricaton. Isn't it also one of the ingredients in modern skin creams for the aged to help plump up the wrinkles?  Doesn't sound like it has any direct effect on osteoporosis as such. At least webmd didn't indicate that.  MSM is used for many different disorders, including inflammatory ones, and osteoporosis but webmd says there isn't any published literature as yet about it.  Sounds like a safe sort of experiment to make, taking MSM, just like we are taking our Vitamin K2 despite the doctors' ignorance about it, for example.  May look into it myself if it's available here.

Carrie and Anhaga, I just wrote a big post and the page disappeared. Ugh.

I'll try again.

Im taking MSM to help heal my stomache from taking Prednisone for over 1 1/2 years. It gave me silent acid reflux that I didn't know about.

im starting with 1/2 tsp MSM daily for about 5 weeks. I sometimes forget to drink it. I got high quality flakes. No taste, dissolves pretty well. I'll increase it now. My reflux symtoms have really decreased. Only feel slight symptoms when I eat things off my diet.

I'm also reading a book about how our brain and body are so connected. So that may be helping me too. Meditation, etc. I think if we are putting natural, healthy things in our body and doing other healthy things with intention of making us better then that is positive and instead of the body fighting then perhaps it will heal itself as it was intended.

Intersting thing I read was...pain and the brain, we feel pain, it tells the brain, then the brain tells you your in pain, and so on... So after I feel the pain I say, ok...there's pain, now I don't need to feel that anymore so I feel a release. Kind of fun.

I believe that we can "learn" to be ill.  In the same way you are showing we can "learn" to be well.  Now if I could just figure out why my back hurts, and whether my spine is crumbling or not....

Hi Layne,

Oh double ugh on the post disappearing   Hate it when that happens.  I try to remember to copy and paste before I click on the reply button, then if it doesn't want to go thru, I paste what I just wrote lol

I had heard of the MSM supplement, but didn't know one could take flakes.  Do you think it helps your OP too or OA/joints?  I take a half teaspoon of manuka honey to aid my acid reflux/indigestion I used to get.  Seems to help

I totally agree that our minds and bodies are intertwined.  Meditation and relaxation is supposed to help a lot, especially in fighting stress levels.  I need to do mine more, time runs away with me at the moment.  Do you have a particular mantra to help 'deal with the pain'?  Does it work??! lol  I have read several books on subjects similar, but do need to take them on board more.  There is a lot in positive thinking I know, it is just sometimes easier to do than at others when things seem particularly hard.

kind regards Carrie

Hi Jean,

You may be right, I can't remember, if it isn't that, then it is certainly something similar, I must check out my skin cream! lol  I am hoping that the natural gelatin capsule I am taking will do an equally good job of lubricating the joints.  Shame it doesn't have a beneficial aspect on OP from what you've read, at least as far as the published literature goes.  Think, like you, I will still look into it.  As you say, the Dr's didn't tell us about K2, so maybe this could help too, just no-one published results yet.

Let me know how you get on

Take care! kind regards Carrie

Hi Mariana,

Ahh...msm with glucosomine, it is coming back to me I might have seen something....though for some reason my brain reckons I saw a separate supplement containing msm.  Must have a look thru my bits.

I haven't had a message thru from you - just messaged you asking lol  Or did you mean the above post?  I will check out those 3 words!!  Thank you   Plus have you any info on myacalcin?  Would be gratefully received if you could message me   Thank you

Take care

kind regards Carrie

Hi Carrie

If you can find a Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi teacher, with whom you feel comfortable I would say give it a go - BUT don't try too hard. I think the advantage of Yoga is that it is not a competition,  just exercise and stretch within your capabilities and if the person next to you can touch their toes, bend over backwards (!) so what!!

Listen to your body. I am a great believer in remaining positive. However, having no pain whatsoever (despite back score -4.9) does help a lot!

Look after yourself and everybody keep smiling!

It's for joint health and is usualy part of a joint complex supplement.  And yes, I have seen it in the face creams.

Thanks Carrie. I wondered how different it is for people with actual osteoporosis and not borderline or osteopenia. I think you may be more casual if you have not been told you have severe osteoporosis and your back may collapse.

I try not to be paranoid but I think I may be lol.

Having other serious conditions does not help for sure. It makes you more vulnerable. I try to distract myself and not wallow. The best distractions for me are two small grandsons who are very funny.

It will be interesting to hear what your rheumatologist says. I have put off doing that for now as suspect they would want me on one of the drugs.

All the best and thank you for your response.
