When I explain HOW tired I am because of this condition, people don't get it. I am constantly so exhausted mentally and physically. When I inform others of the weight I do not gain bec of the condition people say they wish they were born without a thyroid. It really upsets me. What can I tell others when they ask why I am "so lazy"?
Hello Hannah:
Thyroid and endocrine disorders are a big deal in the body. These problems are huge for the body.
The thyroid controls our energy and our metabolism and our periods in women. It can make many people disabled.
Anyone who has it can attest to that. If only people could see inside our bodies they would know. If educating them fails, then they are not a friend!
Here on this forum we understand and most of us are going through similar experiences.
Stay strong and hold your head up high, you are ill, you are a good person!
Regards,
Shelly
Hannah,
I have been going through the same thing with my family. They don't think I like to do anything anymore but they just don't understand how I feel. I really have withdrawn because I can't do the things I use to. I use to work out but find myself to tired to even walk around the block. I also use to do Zumba 1 nite a week at work. I get depressed a lot because I'm not able to have fun like I use too.
When I first was diagnosed, I was sleeping 18hrs. Out of 24. I know how you feel. It took me several doctors before I found one that actually knows the thyroid. As far as telling others, it's like having anything else. If you never had it you can't imagine what it does to a person. Most don't try to understand either. You tell them your not lazy , you have a medical condition. If it matters to you what they think. You have to learn to please yourself and pay no attention to others with cruel opinions. It will always be this way. You may need to change physicians and perhaps it will get better. I hope you feel better soon. We were dealt a bad hand in the area of a thyroid.
