Hi peri friends.
I have been experiencing bad anxiety lately for no particular reason. It has hit completely out of the blue. It has been up and down for a week now. I haven't had it this bad for years. Is this normal for peri?

Hi Helen,
Sorry it can be a peri symptom, my struck out of no where in Nov 2012 and at the time i never connected the two. At the time I thought I was going to die with some terrible illness. Even booked myself in for a complete health check to rule out anything. Not one of my doctors ever put the age, peri as a possibility. Was offered anti depressants and suggested I booked into see a counsellor, which I said no to as this wasn't me and didn't know where it came from. Have since read it is very common especially the fear of doom and gloom.
Oh what it is to be a lovely female ha! Ha!
Now I understand things a little better this has certainly helped.
i am on a low dosage of HRT, Oestrogel and Utrogestan as I am still peri.
i have regular acupuncture and have now booked to see a homepatic on Tuesday to see if that will help.
this forum has been my godsend to confirm that I am not going daft (even though hubby probably thinks I am) and that I am not alone. Please go back over all the old stories on here and I can promise you it will help you understand what can happen.
Loads of hugs,
Joy

Hi Snatchpiece, can you tell me if you find the low dose HRT has helped at all. I am at the point where I think I will have to give it a try. My quality of life is so poor at the moment, having a particularly rough patch right now. I feel so ill but have been deliberating whether to give it a go. Xx
Yes it sure can be, and probably is. I have the same issue but have found releif by using a bio-identical progesterone cream day 12-26 of my cycle. Within a 1/2 hour of using it I felt like my old self. Mine started last April and carried through what I call the 'summer of darkness'.. I really thought I was losing my mind. It may be a good idea for you to get your levels checked to rule out any other problem. Some ladies have great success using an anti-depressant during this time. for now I have chosen not to go that route, instead I use the cream, vitamins, Gaba for anxiety, Melatonin for sleep, and exercise.
You are in good company here, we are on this roller coaster ride together. :O)
I know how you feel Helen. My anxiety is off the charts it frusterates me so bad. I don't like doing anything anymore just rather stay home. I freak out about any little thing thank goodness I don't have a choice about work I have to work. I would probably never be outta the house much if I didn't.I think some of this is cause I been feeling a little on the low side as well. Hope you feel better big hugs to you
Hiya Mooma,
its still early days for me as I only started a few weeks ago and yet to have my first bleed. This is now my fourth attempt in trying different HRT's but have read really good reviews and success on this regime so my fingers and toes are truly crossed for success this time round!!
my own cycle used to be 25 days so personally I'm having to adapt the progesterone part (Utrogestan) to start on day 12-26 rather than days day 15-26 as they recommend as I can feel my old cycle to start brewing on day 12, and when I need extra support.
This is I believe is the kindest of the HRT's and I believe they call it the gold standard of HRT's.
i have an appointment with Dr. Danni Evans (she is a specialist in the menopause) in early March to ask her advice if I am going the right way.
once I see the homepatic tomorrow then that may well be my answer but to be honest I just want to go back to feeling myself again and not having to panic that tomorrow will bring more anxiety and the feeling of constant fear that there is something sinister going on.
big hugs coming your way Mooma,
Joy xx
Thanks. It's a rough ride isn't it. Not knowing how youll feel day to day. Thanks for the advice. Hope it works for you. Let me know how you get on. Xx
Hi Helen! YES! it is very normal to go thru periods of intense anxiety. It times like this that our Circulation and Nervous systems are in a bit of a flux. We get a bit of infllux and imbalance from our Symptomatic (fight or flight) and our Parasympathatic (relax). I just came out of a big one where it was intense but plus had a period that hadn't had in about 4 months and it was a full moon plus tons of snow storms ..ugh. I try to keep myself busy and use a consistent phase (distractor) when I start to get the panicky or anxious feelings and try to move on from that. Good luck my friend you are not alone!!
Hi Dawn,
Hope you don't mind me asking you, but I was wondering how good you find GABA ? Is there a particular form or brand you would recommend please ? Thank you very much.

Hi Mooma, I am currently trying my first HRT (Femoston) I an finding I'm getting a lot of headaches/ nausea and also feeling really tired. Am torn between carrying on a bit longer or giving it in, don't know what to do on my 6th week. Any advice anyone?
Hi to all that have replied. I have found it a great help. I was at the doctors earlier and talked through a lot. I have another UTI. So fed up with these and that accounts for some of my symptoms, the anxiety, raised blood pressure and light headed. Yet all these symptoms are in peri too.
So frustrating, but having been to the doctor and your replies I feel a little better. So thank you all.

That is great Helen it is always nice to get some reassurance..puts a "kick" in your step! I have had a lot of UTI's too!! and Kidney stones..
Take care
Hi Lisa
Thanks for your reply. You say that you have had a lot of UTI's.
Can I just ask you if you knew you had them from symptoms? Because I don't always have the symptoms(this time I have but only my anxiety and funny head). I often wonder how long I've had one before I really notice.
Thanks.
Helen.
Hi Helen
Yes this is normal because last year was when I started having bad anxietis and heart palpitations this year it has cut back I think I was in my phase or Peri last year and did not know it
let it take its course and everything will be fine
The anxiety part of peri is horrid. Try to remember this too will pass for everything does.
Do you take any B vitamins? B6 and B12 help lots of ladies with anxiety and exhaustion.
Hi Helen, yes UTI can be a bit mysterious... there were times I had pain ...lots of it and times that it would just catch me off guard. It depends on where exactly the UTI is in the tract I suppose. I think I remember havng light headnesses with a few. It is due to low estrogen because normal amounts of estrogen in this area usually blocks bacteria from getting in. Anyway, drink lots of water and once and while cranberry juice. You probably would have gotten some symptoms at some point..for me it would be really sudden and then I would be like...ahhh this is what is going on! Good luck with it all!!
Hi Helen,
I have visited an homepatic this week in hoping to find a solution to my peri anxiety and I was fascinated on how much it can cover. I was given something for my anxiety and I have felt ever since. You have about a two hour appointment and the therapist ask lots of questions to help built up a picture about you as a person and then you are given a remedy that will personally suit you as an individual. May be our natural answer
As one of homeopathy’s polychrest remedies, Ignatia can be used to treat a wide variety of complaints. Therapeutically, it can be used for headaches, sore throat, nervousness, insomnia, heart palpitations, gas, indigestion, mood swings, menstrual irregularities, irritable bowel syndrome, painful hemorrhoids, or a dry, tickling cough, to name a few.
Anxiety, Insomnia & Depression – For those unable to assimilate grief or disappointment, a state of anxiety and/or depression may arise. Ignatia is indicated in cases of anxiety, insomnia or depression where there is a clear link to an unpleasant emotional event, regardless of how long ago it was. People are often able to pinpoint exactly when their problems began, i.e., directly following a death in the family. Always look for confirmatory Ignatia symptoms, such as headaches, sighing or yawning (this is often noticed by a companion, and not by the person themselves), and easy startling and weeping. -
I now am feeling more positive about my transition into menopause, so if you are suffering with peri anxiety then why not read up on it to see if can you.

Thanks for the info Joy. I will certainly look it up. Glad you are feeling more positive.
