Hi all. I know I have posted about my gallbladder bothering me before. Has anyone who went through this found that it got better after meno, or after getting hormones back in check with hormone replacement? Or did you just end up getting it removed? Thanks
OMG, you read my mind. Do you get that nasty taste in your mouth? Or stomach pain?
My started back again after 7 months of no pain, what symptoms do you get?
Sorry, but the gallbladder is usually not usually positively affected by the end of menopause. To delay addressing a gallbladder issue, might affect the digestive organs negatively. xx
I don’t get the nasty taste. I get bloating, lots of belching, gas, nausea, right side under rib pain and it wraps around to the back sometimes. But, like you, I will go months with no pain. What about you?
Yes, months without the pain, I feel awful, I don't even want to get out of bed and go to work😣, my period are still regular every month, I think I'm going to start walking again it might be why mine started back, we had a long winter and I haven't been able to walk and loose that extra 10 pounds.
I think it's best to visit the Dr, My pain just got so bad terrible sickness with it! Do you take Omeprazole? I did it was so bad one night the Dr came out & called for an ambulance, I had mine removed I am sure meno had nothing to do do with mine. Hpe this helps.
Yes, I'm going next week. I hate not feeling like myself
Good for you as the pain only gets worse, I felt so well after having mine removed ![]()
Hi 2chr2015, i get gallbladder pain, i say pain mine is an ache right under my right ribs. I too get bloating, belching and sometimes acid(not often re acid). This comes and goes for me but, i have had 2 episodes this month. I have been very anxious this month because of this pain , i have now also changed my diet so eating 5 fruit and veg every day whereas, before i was lucky to have one. I was going to go to the GP re this but they will just say it is anxiety. Have you got gall stones? i have got 2. I was anxious because i googled and saw the pain under my ribs was associated with the liver and thought i had damaged my liver in some way. I had a blood test 10 months ago have high cholesterol and high triglyceride levels these cause scarring on your liver and i have not really done anything to reduce these until the last few weeks hence changing my diet. I don't really want my gall bladder removed so will try and be kind to myself. Most gall bladder stones are caused by cholesterol. One of my friends had hers removed due to blockage of a gall stone and she has had the same bloating and belching problems after, she also has nerve pain in the area caused by damage from the surgery (not good). xx
Hi lynda in what way can it effect the digestive organs negatively? I have read having it removed increases your chance of getting pancreatic cancer?
Hi Mars can i ask about your gall bladder problems, i have aching under my right ribs not all the time it comes and goes, i get bloating and sometimes belch lots depends what i eat. Can i ask di you get pale stools sometimes? I sometimes do but not sure if this is due to anxiety as when i am anxious i go to the loo 3/ 4 times a day and have pale stools but i guess this is because food passes through me much quicker when anxious. My normal bowel habits are 2/3 times a week. x
hello, as I have said to other post you should avoid taking PPI's. Ask your doctor to prescribe you a drug for bile reflux such as carafate, riopan gel. It helps to protect your stomach form bile salts and makes the bowel movements more solid.
I have the same symptoms with you and excessive saliva...when sometimes my bile reaches my throat I have throat pain.
Milk chocolate and syrup are my worst triggers.
Hi evi, do you take any of the 2 drugs you have mentioned? i have loosish light brown stools sometimes but wondered if this is an anxiety issue rather than gall bladder problem. I do have 2 stones and occassional achy feeling under right ribs but sometimes under left ribs. x
Hello Amanda, before 2 years I had a phmetry test and the results were excessive amount of non acid reflux and a little bile reflux.
Due to my bile reflux, I have diarreah and loose light colored stools, gassiness and belching, nausea sometimes. Most of the time my burping is like fake belches from swallowing too much saliva
I am taking riopan gel, I play with the dose depending on my symptoms and it really helps me with some of my symptoms
I usually take one before bed.
As far as I know I do not have stones. I think it is hormonal. I have intense pain under my ribs the first hours before my period is about to start, like dyspnea. Painkiller helps me in this case
Hi mars. I quit taking the omeprazole. I was taking it for lpr (silent reflux) which was making my throat really sore. It did work, but I found that cutting acidic foods out of my diet also works.
I had sludge and gravel stones show up on ultrasound. But, the next time I was having pain, they didn’t. I haven’t had it out bc I can go months with no pain. This time the pain and nausea put me in the bed for the day. But, since I started being careful with what I eat, it has settled down a bit. I am going to the doctor next week for my yearly. I will talk to her then and see what she recommends.
How long did yours bother you before it got that bad?
Hi Amanda. Everything you just said sounds all very familiar. I had sludge and some gravel stones about 2 years ago. Last US showed nothing. She said I could get a ct if I wanted but I had stopped hurting by then and decided not too. But my cholesterol was borderline high last time too!! I was so freaked out bc my cholesterol has always been excellent. There must be a connection. I also read that most gallstones are cholesterol stones. In my reasearch I have also read that this is common in peri and meno and our hormones also effect our cholesterol. I can’t remember the reason behind that. I am on the gallbladder forum also and I have read good and bad stories after removal. I guess it’s just a gamble. But, if the pain is too severe or it gets infected I won’t have a choice. I was hoping someone would say that after meno it gets better. When you are having an episode does your face ever get hot? Almost like a hot flash? Or like a fever. But then it goes away after a couple of days.
I’m glad you had such good results after your surgery
Amanda. I do get pale stools sometimes too..
But then it goes away when the pain does.
Gilly. I have recently put on a few pounds. Mostly from not eating healthy I think. My periods are relatively regular but sometimes off a few days.. I’ve had a rough couple of weeks but feeling better after watching what I eat.. I don’t want to go to the doctor next week, but I know I have too. I’m afraid of my cholesterol being high again.. when you are having episodes, does your face ever get really hot?
HI, Amanda, I'm in the USA, hence the delay. It's not true that taking your gallbladder out can lead to pancreatic cancer. Leaving a diseased gallbladder in one's body causes the other digestive organs to malfunction, your stomach, pancreas, liver and intestines.
It can rupture, or even die in your body. From that, you can develop life threatening infections. Sometimes, the gallbladder can fuse to adjacent organs. It can become cancerous, and if it becomes cancerous the cancer can spread.
If one has a diseased organ in the body that can be safely removed, I think it's best to remove it. Or, you're playing a waiting game that could severely impact your life and health. xx
