Perimenopause: Can it cause a change in bowel habits?

Hi, I'm a new member.

I am perimenopausal having not had a period for six months and being 52 years old. I do not suffer from any real symptoms apart from a change in bowel habits now going more frequently than before and stools being softer. I feel fine and the only difference I have made to my diet recently is introducing live yoghurt into it. I wonder if anyone else has experienced a change in bowel habits too?

Hi there, the answer to your question is a definite yes. Your bowels can change dramatically and give symptoms like IBS. Alternating constipation then dihorrea and gas too! I suffer with all of those and I never used to. So I use a regular dose of laxatives to keep my bowels moving, simeticone gel caps to combat gas, and if I go the other way with the runs, I take a couple of loperomide to calm it down, but its all swings and roundabouts and hoping once hormones settle so will the bowels! Hi Tina i am glad you replied to ladyclancy as i have been contemplating going to see my Gp as i have been having ibs type symptoms for a few months. My normal habits are 2 or maybe 3 x weekly but recently i have been going sometimes 3 x daily then become constipated then all change again. I have recently stopped amitri[tyline too and wondered if it was this drug x
