Nitey night x

morning, my saviour is called sizzling minerals and contains 65 plant derived minerals. you pop the wafer into a glass of water watch it fizz and then enjoy not just the taste but the benefits too. My nails have improved (although I am very naughty and I pick them!!) they are much stronger and the other thing is my improved sleep patterns. I had a hysterectomy, (left ovaries) 10 years ago (am now 50) and had hrt prescribed last year but couldnt stand it due to terrible migraines. so to find something that has really helped has been amazing  :-) website _____ some fantastic products on there. my other favourite is their krill oil. I still get the odd night sweat but can manage them it was the feeling like a raving loony that I couldnt stand and the horrible hair and skin........

If anyone is still checking this thread, thank you so much for posting all these messages. I am 53 and have have experienced in the past few years everything you all have mentioned. I've had some big life events in the past few years and have been surprised to find I don't have the resilience I once had. Missed periods for a number of months, but then had them again and everything went back to normal. It's been two months and most of the symptoms are back. The mothers of my children's friends are younger than I and so I've not heard so much about this before. Does anyone feel strongly about prescriptions versus vitamins and foods to alleviate these symptoms? It certainly does help to know I am not alone in this!

Hi Katz

welcome to the world of peri... 😄

try some Maca tabs and some B6 for sure ..

Jay xx

Hi Jay,  what is Maca for ? please tell me about it x

Hi anxiousface

i have used it all through for 10 years, i used this on its own for two years with no other supps..

heres some net info for a rough idea..

Maca Powder Maca Capsules and Menopause

In the menstrual cycle there are three main players which are the brain, the ovaries and the uterus. When the ovaries go into retirement at menopause, it takes the brain some time to adjust to the fact that the ovaries are not responding in their customary hormonal tango.

The brain is still sending out its hormonal messengers but is not getting the required response from the ovaries.

As the brain is till sending out the hormones, these chemical messengers are still stimulating physical and emotional reactions in the womans body. This may be a major factor in all the symptoms and difficulties that some women have during the menopausal transition.

These symptoms can include :

hot flushes,

vaginal dryness,

loss of libido,

depression,

moodiness

and insomnia.

If you are having these effects - it contributes to a major loss of quality of life and interferes with normal day to day living.

There are ways to introduce balance back into your menstrual system, There are many natural supplements for menapause that can support and assist your body to function normally and healthily. Maca Powder is one.

also Maca capsules - Tablets

ok thanks jay, i don't suffer from any on your list as yet so i will leave it for now. but you have explained everything for me thankyou and if things change i will be having some of those. xx

Hi anxiousface

please note its not my list.. its just info off the web

I don't know if it's a symptom of perimenopause or just a regular part of aging, but I have been having some trouble getting an accurate vision presciption for a few years now. It seems like I can't get a good combination of distance and close-up even with linelessbifocals. I wonder if prescription meds for menopause might help vision changes? Just curious.

Hi Katz

i wear contact lens and also some days my vary focal glasses, I went through a real dry eye period and could not wear my contacts, and cant see things close with out.. ( i am long sighted) i just had new glasses vary focal, and oh my they feel sooooo strong for me... i did find that if i perservered with the vary focal my brain adjusted to them, but i I dont wear and use my contacts for a while then I have to go through adjusting to my glasses again, i too wonder the same thing..., i tend to put my old vary glasses on and not my new ones .. Jay xx

i have worn vary focal for 12 years so its not like its a new type for me..

Oh well, there's one thing I learned ... don't try to edit your avatar when you're halfway through writing a post ... you lose everything!

I realise the original post is 4 months old, but I just had to reply/follow because almost everything the other posts have written I can relate to.  I am 53 years old and I have been going through perimenopause for years ... and years ... and years.  I didn't have a period for 2 years and thought I was through it, but much to my annoyance they re-started.  I checked this out with my (female) doctor who smiled at me as though I was on the slow side of moronic when I said I thought if you didn't have a period for a year you could consider you've finished menopause.  Apparently not!

For years now I've felt as though I was on the verge of some kind of breakdown; everything I thought I knew about myself, my abilities, my knowledge, my confidence, my experience ... all slipped away.  I swear I am borderline OCD now because I have to check three times that I've locked the door on the way out.  I have lost all confidence in my ability to retain any new information, it has to be noted down, or reminders set on every electronic device I can lay my hand to.  My emotions are all over the place and I was on the verge of walking out on my marriage, not to mention having suicidal thoughts ....  I consulted another (female) doctor who wanted to start me on powerful medication for anxiety.  I preferred to see a counsellor who, as soon as I began to relate how I was feeling, asked, "Could this be menopause?"  The counsellor is female and a nurse.  I am so thankful for her perception and experience.

Now that I know (after all these years ) what I am dealing with I know that it will end at some point ... cannot be soon enough.

Our society has a very unfortunate tendence to belittle and smirk at "women's problems" ....  It's all just a bit of a joke, the old girl's a bit cranky/hormonal, etc.  We are at the mercy of our hormones, whether we like it or not, and this should not be dismissed (or as my husband would prefer, completely ignored because it's all just too horribly embarassing!)  It has a huge impact on the quality of life of women.  Thanks to all who post and share - the least we can do as women is support one another.

Hi Katzenbunz -

I've been experiencing periods of blurred vision and feeling as though my reading glasses aren't quite doing the job anymore.  Been checked out by opthamologist who assures me all OK, so perhaps it is the menopause?  I've been going through it for several years!  Interested to know if meds for menopause help you.  Good luck with that.  MenoWoman

Hi Menowoman

oh i feel for you, having a period after two years none... yes they say after 12 months no period that its classed as meno reached, i am about at the year mark in couple of weeks... I am aged 50, been in peri for 9-10 years, natural... with natural supplements and vits etc..

did they offer you an ultra sound to double check all okay with you having a period after two years ?

i am going for one and well woman check on Monday evening to check all okay, I had enlarged follicular ovarian cysts in early per and endometriosis aged 30 .. so its just for peace of mind for me...

i too am a little abit OCD i have to unplug everything and question myself, and think did i lock the door and have to check again...  i use to be alot worse...

have you tried Vit B6 with your menopause it helps all these anxieties etc well it did for me, and it is recommended in peri and meno.. and B12 ..

do you take anything to help you through .. naturals like Menapol plus or estroven max etc, or HRT...

hang in there Menowoman ... be kind to yourself 😕

Yes I get that too. Has got worse last couple of yrs.x

Hi Jay -

I haven't been taking anything to alleviate the symptoms .... Thanks so much for letting me know what you take - just one thing, what is "Maca"?  Also, the Vitamin B12 injection, presumably your doctor prescribed that for you?  Is B12 better absorbed by injection rather than by being taken orally, I wonder?  Anyway, so many questions!!

I shall visit the health supplement aisle in the supermarket tomorrow and stock up.

Fingers crossed.

Bye for now!

MenoWoman xx

Hi Menowoman

maca is fab, i take 2 x 500mg capsules a day have for 10 years..

info below taken from web.. they refer to the powder form, but i get the capsules... amazon, health food shops etc

Maca can be very beneficial for peri-menopause. It helps the adrenals and the adrenals oftne play a role for menopausal symptoms such as hotflashes and the low libo can also be affected by the adrenals, especially in women. There are many other suppments that can help but maca is a great place to start becuase if this is all you need, then you have a food you can use ongoing in your diet as oppsed to a supplement. Maca is also good for stabilizng blood sugar and energy and stamina. A lot of athletes takes it. Try buying an organic powder. The one from Organic Traditions is quite good and so is the one from Navitas Naturals. Because it is a food, more is needed - so 1 tablspoon is a commonly recommended amount. I have even baked with it. It is not the tastiest substance - tastes like a roasted chickpea so it is best in a savory recipe than a sweet. However, always go slow with anything you try. Start with a tsp and work up. You can add it to smoothie and it makes a great hot drink mixed with cocoa and the whole sweetener of your choice like honey or coconut sweetener. There is an extract that comes as a tincture and there are also capsules available. However, I have found the powder works best. Give it a try and see what happens. If it does not stop your peri-menopause symptom, try adding an adrenal adaptagen or glandular - your local health food store can provide with you several options for this. Also, try exercisng as it can help with excess cortisol which can be involved with peri-menopause and menopause symptoms. Good Luck.

I slept for 3 hours after an 8 hr nursing shift, not long had a holiday but made no differnce as soon as back at work. Wake early to pee, gut problems, feel tired all the time and been so depressed thought about ending it. My job is suffering which I hate anyway due lack of breaks and support, but see no way out. Angry all the time, avoid people as too tired, cant be bothered. Even in the nice weather we recently had, I stayed in as no on to go out with and too tired.
