Hello Ladies !
I get these cold spells once a month. They are usually before my periods. My hormones are over the place right now being in perimenopause for 4 yrs now. I started to get these cold days where they was bearable in my first year. I would wake up at night and be chilled to the bone. I couldnt find anything to keep me warm. They have now turned into being so severely cold that it makes my toes sting sometimes...almost like when I was little girl playing in the snow too long. My bodie feels like I could catch the flu at any time but Im not sick with any other symtoms. My leg will go numb at times on these days.. like from the knees down to my feet. Some days I have tingling in my face around my cheeks and chin along with my hands and part of my wrist feeling tingling like it will go numb at any minute. Im not anxiuous or feeling any anxiety at these times either. I have had anxiety with my Peri but these are not the same things going on. I have seen so many doctors and no one can find anything wrong. I aslo have days during the month as if I have asthma. My chest gets so tight it hurts my jawline and my neck tightens. I have even seen an Endocrinologist an had my blood tested for any thyroid problems but they said everything looked normal. Any ladies out there with the same problems so I know its more hormones then a serious problem??? Does it ever go away after menopause?? Please let me know what youve tried that works. I CANT use HRT Ive had an ablation for Tachycardia and anything strong gives me bad heart palpitations. Maybe someone has tried a natural method that may help. Thanks Ladies !!!
Sorry Blessed, I get the cold spells sometimes but not the numbness. I have ghad the tingling, Freaked me out the first time thought I was having a stroke or something.
Blesses_Mimi,
I haven't had any cold spells but I do get the tingling. In fact mysymptoms are never consistent. Just since Sept I have begun missing periods. I haven't had it since May right now. I'm 51. I have all kinds of symptoms but not the normal hot flashes and night sweats. At times I feel like I can't breathe, then I get tingling in hands and feel like I'm going to pass out. I've thought I was having a heart attack a few times, go to hospital and have all kinds of tests and nothing wrong with me. I will suddenly feel like my sugar drops, get weak, sweaty, jelly legs and feel like I'm failing. I get pain in joints occasionally, my eyes are very sensitive to light, my nose gets really stuffy and nasal spray doesn't relievet. I get anxiety attacks. I'm hoping it's all normal. I see my gyno end of this month. I never thought going through perimenopause would be so bad! I don't want to use HRT because of the risk of breast cancer. To me, it's a normal transition so I'll just try and ride it out.
Hi Blessed, I'm four years into my menopause at age 54, going through it naturally just using Soya and Vit B complex. Your body will have difficulty regulating its temperature, also anxiety and low mood/depression are some of the many symptoms we have to endure unfortunately! I didn't recognise that these were connected to the menopause and ended up having a breakdown as the panic attacks increased my anxiety levels, I had the shivers, tingling in my fingers, couldn't sleep, dry mouth, depression. Calmness and acceptance as we go through this stage of life is vital, along with exercise. Also what really helped me with anxiety is Dr Claire Weekes Self Help for your Nerves a brilliant book! Hope this helps in some way xxx
Hi Mimi,
yes this sounds like perimenopause, and the anxiety will make you produce extra adrenaline ready for fight flight freeze or frolic. With excessive adrenaline comes a lot of the symptoms you describe, like feeling you can't breath etc. feeling cold can link into the hormones. A good diet making sure you get your vitamin B complex especially B12 eggs, oily fish and calcium broccoli etc. be patient your body needs to rebalance. See what your gynaecologist recommends. Hope you feel better soon x
Hi Blessed,
In perimenopause phase, you may have spells of coldness alternate with hot flushes. If you are not done with hormone assay other than thyroid then please get it done. As this is hormonal change related effects, you just simply can't avoid it. So try to combat with the fact by using measures to protect yourself from being exposed to cold. You can start with multivitamin therapy to support your body needs. Routine exercises, meditation will definitely help to improve. Good Luck.
Hello Doc1981
No I havent had any hormone testing done. All my doctors tell me including my Endocrinologist and gynecologist that there is no known test to rule out my hormone level. That they flucuate daily so they could never get an accurate reading to see if Im high or low... and if my thyroid comes back normal my hormones are ok. What test do I ask for? What specialist do I see? Thank you!
hello blessed sorry to only just be repling but i've not been on line since monday. I'm so relieved to hear someone else gets the shivers and i mean shivering to the bone, i will just get this out of the blue and it makes me feel i could pass out. It takes several hours to get warm. I have asked my GP and my specialist at the hospital about it but they just say they don't know some people just get cold so no help from them but as you know this isnt a normal cold this is antartic cold. I don't get the numbness but i get the tingling all over which usually starts in my face and makes me feel like i will have a stroke its really frightening. I was in a Hotel yesterday and after a small meal i felt like this and worried i wa going to have a stroke so went to bed really early thinking if i can get to sleep quick i won feel this. This must be to do with peri cos its all new to me. My dizziness is now my worse symptom and has stopped me doing several things like driving to far and going shopping in big stores etc. I'm not on HRT and do not wish to go on it so i cant blame that. How are you feeling today blessed i do hope your ok its really not nice is it. Sending you a hug and thinking about you.x
Hi. It's better to have cold shivers than hot flashes
. I have perimenopause with cold shivers and even sneezing. Everyone in my family have hot flashes or hot sweats at night but I am the opposite so glad to read that I am not alone or going crazy with these different symptoms. It will be over soon then we feel excellent I heard.
Hello Karen01196
My family was the same. My grandma and mother both had hot flashes and thats about all. Im so cold sometimes I may rather have hot flashes but heard they are very bothersome.
Me...I have everything on the Peri list. I am starting to get the night sweats where I wake up and my legs and underwear are drenched, but usually when I do the next morning I cant get warm. It was 91 degrees the day I couldnt get warm and I took a chair and sat in the sun for an hour. It felt sooo good but I continued to be cold the rest of the day when I leave the sun.
Its weird though and I cant figure out since Ive been in Peri I love to sweat..so when I feel really bad I will push myself to work around my yard to work up a sweat. It always helps me to have a good evening.
My evening are always better then my mornings or afternoons also. I cant figure this part out either but still researching it all. Jayneejay who is very knowledgable about Peri and talks alot about the B6 ...which helped me in my 20s with pms but B complex is working for me so far with the Peri... lifting me up to a better mood.
My latest symptom is talking. I get very light headed if I carry on a long conversation and dizzy with tingling arms and feet almost like there falling asleep. I feel like I am not getting enough oxygen to the brain or something.
Anyone else with anything similiar and what your doing for this????
Im with you ...it will all be over soon
Hugs & Prayers for all you Ladies !!
Yes it's torture...if I come back to this world again I want to be a man! hah. Us women have to go through everything while the men are out playing golf hah. I have vertigo dizzy constantly and throwing up too. Morning sickness. This vertigo started in March and may be part of the premenopause. I haven't thrown up in 2 weeks so hopefully getting better. I hope it's over soon cause it's stopping my enjoyment in life.
Taking a daily vitamin and bought a treadmill. No medication. I am so damn hungry every few hours I have to eat something. Plus I am so thirsty too. I am glad to know that I am not alone with these wierd symptoms. I also bought 2 great books that explains everything about menopause. Menopause for Dummies is great so far and the other is by a specialist. I am going to celebrate when this is over for sure! My Pre-Menopause going away party! hah. Take Care. <3
I'm amazed at reading your post Blessed_Mimi as i also get cold shivers in fact freezing to the bone as i have post before but no one replied. I too notice if i talk a lot i get dizzy and tingley and feel i have to eat and drink something quickly or i'll pass out but didn't realise it was anything to do with getting enough oxygen to the brain, that answers a lot for me thanks Blessed. Sorry i have no answers or remedies for this i just don't talk for long anymore. thanks for the hug, returning an even bigger one x
Hi Blessed,
I am feeling that way right now, I have felt like this a lot lately with the peri menopause.
I feel so cold that I keep thinking in ill with a cold or flu !
I'm dressed with the heating on got a blanket over me and still feel cold 😔. Really don't like this, fed up with it now. Just want to feel well again.
The things us women have to go through x
Hi tina90965
Sorry your having such a chilling day. I know that feeling all too well. I have to say it will pass but mine lasted about a year and now every once in a while ,it comes back.
I would alway read about everyone having hot flashes and wanted those more then the cold spells lol . My feet would actually burn like they was close to being frost bitten!
I changed my diet a little adding pea protien every morning, a multi vitamin, b6, magnesium, vit C . I take flaxseed, chia seeds and Maca depending on which hormone I feel imbalanced with. We have all these herbs and things we take but we really need to be in tune with our bodies to know which ones are needed at the right times.
I printed out some menopause charts free online and compared 4 months and I seen, I had alternating symptoms. Two months being identical as were the other 2 just alternating, as if one ovary was better then the other. So one month I had alot of crying, depression, weirded out feelings and the next month I'd have the coldness, chills with flu symptoms, facial numbness, shortness of breath, tingling arms and legs just a complete mess.
So after learning my body a little bit and knowing each month what to expect...with alot of prayer and staying focused on God's strength he gives me each day...I have bettered myself in a way that has allowed me to have less anxiety and panic attacks.
Sorry so long...just trying to help anyway that I can because if it wasn't for these forums that I read in the beginning of my peri ,Id be a wreck today!
Hope you start to feel better...my prayers go out to you .Be blessed xxx
Are you anemic and/or is your feritin level too low? That will cause extreme coldness.
No they checked to see if I'm anemic ...never heard anything about feritin levels being low so not sure that was checked.
Dear Mimi,
Thank you for your reply.
I get hot flushes and shiver too and like you say sometimes that flu feeling and all the other symptoms you said about.
It does actually make you feel better when you know someone else has experienced the same.
Usually in the mornings lately I feel worse but yesterday I felt really good all morning just started feeling the symptoms as the day went on, most of the time it's the other way round. But then again you can get the symptoms anytime.
Can't wait to get back to my old self again, hope we all get back to our old selves very soon.
Thank you once again Mimi, your lovely, god bless you x
I get the chills, my head gets very cold but the moment I put more clothes on, especially a scarf, it triggers a hot flush. It is awful, I just can't win! Been like this for two years now
Hello Mimi I'm glad to know I'm not going crazy! I pray my symptoms are menopause also. I get the hot flashes and severe cold spells where I'm chilled to the bone. I hadn't been feeling well for the past few months. I've had every blood test done including thyroid and all is normal. So I'm chalking this up to menopause. I also get body aches too! Glad to know I'm not alone! My obgyn says these are normal symptoms! God help us 😝
Hi mimi, I too have constant chills w/menopause. Makes me feel as if I constantly have the flue. ):
