Period takes ages to start

Hello,

For the past six months or so my period has been really slow to get going. I'll get some pain in my lower abdomen before it starts (this is normal for me) then a tiny bit of bleeding very occasionally for about four days or so, and then my period will start properly. Has anyone else had similar or know what it means?

Thanks

Quite a few people get spotting after ovulation and before their next period. The spotting itself is caused by the egg lodging into the uterus which is normal for an egg that isn't fertilized.

Thanks Caters, I had read about that but the timing seems wrong. I start spotting about four days before my period starts...

Hi Lucy,

At last! Someone just like me! The same thing has been happening to my periods for several yeas now - so to me it's normal.

After a week of bloating, indigestion, weepiness etc, I get 3 or 4 days of brown streaking - then the awful pain, front and back, comes on for exactly 24 hours as bleeding gets underway. Then I get a day or 2 of heavy, clotty, bleeding before back to the brown stuff as it tails off.  Just recently the first few days before the proper bleeding have shortened. I am also suffering huge bloats and burning stomach / indigestion a week after the last period. Feeling a bit depressed, too, and weepy. For the first time ever I have had 2 periods - full length 7 to 10 day ones - in one month.....

I am 50 now - so I guess peri meopause is kicking in. But the periods you describe match mine to a T!
