I'm 19 years old.
I last had a normal period on August 30th.
I missed two months (September and October), during these 2 months I was very stressed for various reasons. I put down missing these two months due to the stress I was under, I've missed two in a row before so didn't really worry.
About 3 weeks ago, I started a light period which had heavy moments so I assume that was my period, until it lasted longer than the 5 days I usually am on for, it lasted for 2 weeks until last week when it became heavier, like the beginning of my usual periods.
This heavy period has been going on for about a week now. It's not overly heavy to the point where it's soaking my pad but it's heavier than I assume it should be.
I've been trying to tell myself it's just down to stress and the bleeding I'm having is just the two months I've missed stretching out, but I have hypochondria and social anxiety so it's not so easy to tell myself it's probably stress and I'm honestly too scared to go to the doctor because I'm scared of what they'll say.
Ishould also mention that I've had no cramps, or any pain, and I am NOT sexually active.
This is beginning to stress me out and worry me even more and I can't switch off worrying about it and it's making me very anxious.
Has anyone expirenced this before and do I put it down to stress and the two months of period I've missed or shall I force myself to the doctors? Any help/reassurance is greatly appreciated?
Hi Sophie ~
You're not going to like this, but, I'd suggest you have a check up and see what the doctor has to say. It's probably nothing but it never hurts to make sure. Stress causes so many problems that I'm inclined to think that it's the stress you've been under that isn't making things easy for you.
I wish you all the luck and hope you get some good answers. Don't get all worried because all worry does is make you sit and waste time on something you have no control over, right?
Anyway, Sophie, good luck and let us know how you're doing.
Best regards,
Frustrated
The period finally stopped after about 3 weeks which was good.
Thank you so much for the advice.
I didn't go to the doctors as I was really scared about it and my social anxiety was too high for me to want to leave the house at that moment.
The thing is, now, after about two weeks of no period, the past week, the light period has started again and it's worrying me again. My hypochondria is stressing me out a lot lately, with so many things in my head, and this light bleeding/period I'm having doesn't make anything easier. I'm hoping it's just stress again but I know this isn't normal.
I'm hoping to get to the doctors after the weekend depending on how it is over the weekend but I'm hoping to go soon as possible to get things started on sorting out my Social Anxiety and Hypochondria and if the light bleeding is still there then I will certainly bring it up when I go.
Sorry for taking so long to reply to you as I wanted to see how things went.
Hi Sophie, just came across your story when googling abnormal bleeding. What's happened to you is almost exactly what's happening to me! I was always regular, no problems at all until I ended up in a stressful family feud and I missed a period! The next month It came back but carried on for about 3 months! With heavy clotting and sudden gushes etc but no pain! I put it down to stress but was that worried I went to the doctors, had a smear, pap etc which came back clear but tested positive for thrush??! so after taking some tablets to stop the bleeding I treat it with caneston and had no problems for a year until it happened again last November with spotting then getting heavier..as my symptoms were the same I self medicated with caneston and it cleared up but has come back again!! Getting worried now so will have to get it sorted, I'm not on the pill and 36 and overweight..and slightly stressed..so I'm putting it down to hormones too!! Has your periods gone back to normal now? X
