Periods, anemia and blood pressure and feeling anxious

So it's been 2 weeks since my rectocele prolapse repair. The pain has eased off now it's just uncomfortable and when I turn or move I can feel the stitches which can be sharp sometimes. It's still really sore to touch around the vaginal wall and opening (sorry for great detail) . I'm due on my period on Tuesday and am really scared about it. I'v been feeling a bit light headed also so I went to the doctors. She said I maybe aneamic and I have high blood pressure. She has percribed me some pills to stop my period for this month but was reluctant to give me them and said only take them if I have to.

So unsure what to do now?.xxx

I am in exactly the same position in relation to my op and when I am due on. Op two weeks yesterday, due next Wednesday.

I have also been feeling a bit light headed but mainly on standing up which I put down to sitting around a lot of the time rather than moving about so much. I don't really know what my blood pressure is up to, it is normally low though.

I have been wondering about my period but since I don't have any additional concerns I was planning on just letting things be but I can understand your concerns.

Hopefully someone with some actual advice will be on later. Just wanted to say I think your concerns are perfectly normal though and offer some support! I am sure Matron will have some advice though.

Take care

I suppose your doctor has just left the decision to you. If you feel you can't cope with your period while you are still recovering then take the tablets but they are a hormone so you could feel your breasts are a bit tender for a few days. If she thought you could be anaemic I thought she would have asked you to have a blood test. xx

Hi Topsi. I'm 5 weeks post op for rectocele surgery. I was same as you about period worries as I'm usually quite heavy bleeding and cramps. 1st period was 1 week after surgery and have to reassure you my experience was as normal . Just started period again today. My advice would be to let nature take its course. Keep on with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Daily showers with just warm water on your bits. Hot water bottle and feet up with a good book. NO TAMPONS OBVIOUSLY LOL!! X X

Take them love, my daughter was so anaemic and period at same time as going abroad, she felt so ill she was going to cancel the holiday, she floods really badly.

She went to GP, I more or less pushed her into it, and was given the tablets and took them.

The heavy bleeding stopped very quickly and she had a normal period the month after. She was so glad she had done this.

You have enough to cope with so soon after your op, if you can stop anything on top of it I would.

Hows the little drama queen? lol.

Iv got to have a blood test but can't fit me in till next Thursday and I don't bleed well matron iv got really pants veins unfortunately 😣.xxx

Topsi did your GP explain to you that when you stop taking the tablets you will start your period? If it's the tablets they usually prescribe you are only delaying your period. Sometimes after surgery particularly gynae and pelvic floor your period is delayed anyway but I presume you will know a few days beforehand if your period is imminent. If you don't normally have heavy periods (and usually women don't lose as much blood as they think) it's not going to affect your blood count.

Thanks ladies I'm really glad for this chat room, I think I would be neurotic if I didn't have you all giving me some support and advice. I really apreaciate it.xxx

I'm sure they'll find a vein Topsi but it is a long time to wait. Fortunately you should get the results the following day now most surgeries are computerised x

They are called Norethisterone 5mg matron.xxx

I thought it would be those. Have a think about it Topsi and see how you feel x

Thank you.xxx

Hi Topsi, I was on these for 9 month and you can have side effects, when I stopped taking them I had really bad tummy pain and my vains were hard to get when taking blood.

i know everyone is different so please don't think the same will happen to you but read the leaflet.

Thanks Gillian the doctor has only given me enough for 10 days so I'm still not sure what to do. I think if I take them it will give me an extra 10 days to heal a bit more but if I don't I'll get it out of the way for another 3 & 1/2 weeks.xxx

Once you stop taking the tablets your period will start after about 3 days. The fact you haven't healed isn't a problem, it's how you feel x

It's still really sore to touch down there and I get a queezy kind of feeling when I think about it. Maybe I'm just over thinking things and being a bit of a wimp.xxx

You aren't a wimp at all. Rest and ice packs this weekend along with plenty of fluids with your antibiotics and you'll be feeling better. This surgery can be painful so don't underestimate it xx

Thank you.xxx
