Hi, I have had a phobia of doctors since I can remember. I will avoid all medical attention where possible but this is really getting in the way of my life now. Has anyone had this fear before? Who do I go to for help? Will counselling help me?
Counseling and talking it through with a professional can definitely help you. If I had any advice to give you I would just say to remind yourself that doctors cannot harm you in any way. They are only here to help and improve our situations. Nothing can happen without your consent. Good luck and take care. x
How are you getting on?The best treatment for specific phobias is a form of psychotherapy called exposure therapy. Sometimes your doctor may also recommend other therapies or medication. Exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are the most effective treatments. Generally psychotherapy is successful in treating specific phobias. However, sometimes medications can help reduce the anxiety and panic symptoms you experience from thinking about or being exposed to the object or situation you fear.
Me too but you’ve just got to remember that they are there to help you. I know someone’s the worrying thoughts outweigh this but keep telling yourself they are not going to harm you they are there for your benefit.
