Picalax and Prednisolone

Hi I’m wondering if anyone can shed some light please. I’m booked in for a colonoscopy tomorrow and today I have to take Picalax laxatives.

Well I’m concerned that my prednisolone is being ‘washed away’ for the want of a better expression!

I’ve phoned the hospital where I’m having the procedure tomorrow but they don’t seem to be concerned. They are only bothered about blood thinners.

Has anyone on here had this procedure and were you ok on their dose of prednisolone.

Many thanks

Andrea.

Would you let me know why you're having the colonoscopy?

Yes I recently had a colonoscopy and for 1 day I reduced my prednisone and took it at a different time in order to be able to protect my stomach. It worked ok for me. I brought a banana and water and my meds with me so that I could take more pred right away after my procedure.  Good luck!!

I had one done in December, I didn't change anything except for not taking vitamin e for a week before.

I took my prednisone the day of procedure with my omazapral with a small sip of water. No problems

Providing you have had the pred in your stomach for an hour or so it should have been absorbed. When I had one done I had a load of the "stuff" the afternoon before and then again the next morning. I suspect that at the time I was taking my pred late at night - it took so long to take any effect it was useless in the morning. It wasn't any worse than usual.

It depends what time your appointment is and what you have to take when in the morning.

Andrea, good question I have to have one in December. I will read the thread. Thanks ☺️

Thanks Eileen, I think I Took prednisolone about 40 minutes or so before picalax. My appointment tomorrow is 08.45 so I'll wait until after that to take prednisolone. I'm only on 2mg but I still wouldn't want to have an adrenaline crisis especially getting worked up over this procedure anyway.

Thank you Andrea. Xx

I'm having, well it's a sigmoidoscopy not a full colonoscopy, because of bowel leakage. The problem has been ongoing for well over a year now. But I must be honest since I've reduced sugar out of my diet the problem isn't have as bad. So that's why my GP referred me Rachel initially because of bowel leakage.

thats good to know Sherri thank you! Xx

I will take breakfast with me to the hospital too Connie. 😁 My appointment is 08.45 so I'll be ready for food then! Xx

Good luck Andrea, with the procedure.

When living back in Rhode Island, I would treat myself to a large breakfast of eggs, home fries and corn beef hash. After my first procedure here in NM I asked where I could get corn beef hash. Nobody knew and many people did not know what I was talking about. Hard to believe but true. ☺️
