I had really bad hiccups which turned to coughing up blood after binge drinking in Asia. I drink regularly and after seeing the doctor after this I began to cut down. However I had a long term cold and cough for about 2-3 months and found I had stomach pains from time to time. 2 months since this finished I have constantly attempted stopping drinking for days at a time though even after just a day I feel fairly mild pin like pains on the left hand side of my abdomen, though these also occur on the right hand from time to time and also in the stomach area. Strangely it takes just one or two beers to stop the pains which are not intense though are distracting. I have drunk heavily for over 5 yrs (29 now) which has involved waking up to alcohol on many weekends and at times weekdays, though I have cut this out now. Im not sure if I have an ulcer because the pain is in various areas of my abdomen. Im scared I have something that untreated may develop into cancer. Having managed over a week without drinking the pains persist and only alchohol really seems to stop them. Have searched for similar symptoms but not found anything conclusive. Please let me know if you have any theory on this??
Steven-Sorry for your discomfort. Are you seeing a doc regularly? You need a full blood "work up" where they see levels of all enzymes, hormones, etc. This way the docs can make sure your liver is working properly. Have you tried eliminating dairy from your diet? or gluten? Do you eat healthy otherwise? Lots of fresh fruits and veggies? When you saw the doc, did he suggest any tests to see if you have ulcers? Are you stressed? I hope you feel better soon!
Hi thanks for the reply, I am lac tose intolerant so dont touch dairy often and am not consciously stressed. I tgink its some kind of adjustment to alcohol levels dropping tho is quite long term. The blood work up is a good suggestion as the doctors havent taken it too seriously though this is also due to my lax attitude towards attending. Im also fearful of an ulcer going untreated. My diet is ok not super healthy but daily veg and supplements.
