Pinnacle Hip Replacement in news

I've just read in the news that the best selling Pinnacle hip replacement can leak metal into the bloodstream. This is my surgeons preferred method!

Disconcerting!!!????

I think I'm going to have to speak to my surgeon. Pre-op on 19th May so I may be able to ask some questions then!

I know - if you are yet to have your THP I would be switching, as I am sure your consultant is already doing so....time to call the secretary, and be glad your op hasb't been and gone. The failure rate seems very high.

Haven't got a clue what I have in me.

Mine is ceramic, but must be worrying for those who have that one.

Not sure if other studies back this although  my metal on metal resurfacing was recalled last year due to similar issues and I had metal leaking into the joint. Plus a fracture where the new head screwed into the femur , plus pain +++ hence revision to THR .

Oh dear. ..don't know the hardware. .....

how the hell can this be in this day and age. ....

That's horrifying, Fern. Hope you get some answers and reassurance.

I've emailed my surgeon's PA this morning - can't wait until 19th. I was feeling relatively relaxed until I read this!

Sorry, forgot to update you all. I had an email from my surgeon reassuring me that there are several 'types' of pinnacle hip replacements & he uses ceramic, not metal. He was really nice & offered to see me on my pre-op day to discuss further but I declined & said his reassuring email was sufficient enough to put my mind at rest x

good to know !!!!

surgery date is approaching darling ....

big warm hug

Thanks Renee x
