Can anyone tell me - if you get pins and needles/numbness when you have anxiety, how long does it take to resolve when you stop feeling anxious? Do the nerves get disturbed like when you cut your hand and nerve endings get damaged, but gradually heal over time? In other words, is it a physical or a mental process that you go through? Thanks everyone
it is both a physical and a mental process when you get pins and needles with anxiety. Basically, the anxiety is caused by various life situations or events which we can say is the mental part because it causes us to fear. The physical part of the numbness in tingling is caused by blood rushing to different parts of the body when we are anxious. It’s the fight or flight response that helps us prepare for what the brain perceives as some kind of a threat. so blood rushes to different parts of the body in order to oxygenate them. there is no actual nerve damage that happens.
some people get numbness and tingling every day and it goes away on its own or comes back randomly. Other people rarely get it. But it is not harmful. It’s been going on since the beginning of human life. the more you relax your mind, the sooner it will go away.
of course numbness and tingling can be caused by other things such as dehydration, compression of nerves, hyperventilation like panic attacks rapid breathing, low calcium, low potassium. take care.
thank you. i do hope it goes away soon. take care
