Plaquenil for GA?

Has anyone tried a drug called Plaquenil to treat widespread GA?

Hi!  I tried Plaquenil for several months without success.  It is related to a drug that can cause eye problems, so I was cleared by my eye doctor.  It has worked for others.  I've tried photo therapy also without success  I'm currently on Dapsone and I see no new lesions, but I'm also out in the natural sunlight, which always helps.  Good luck with whichever path you take :-)  Holler if you need anything.  Pam

No, I refused to take drugs for it. UVB Light Therapy helped me.

Tried Plaquenil and it seems to have worked. I was on it for 3 months and saw some slight improvement. I continue for a forth month and I'm 99% clear skinned. It could have been coincidence but I really don't care. Absolutely give it a try. Good Luck, Jeff

i was diagnosed with GA last year..after a biopsy..used the steroid ointment for months 3 weeks on 1 off…dermatologist wants to start me on plaquenil…i have eye issues…clouding on right eye..vision decreasing so he wants me to see a opthamologist first..i also suffer headaches on a regular basis…and have heard plaquenil can cause this too..i am rather concerned to taking it…i have appt in the new year..to see derm…i also stopped using *he doesnt know yet…the steroid ointment…did notice the patches became darker and depending on where clothing rubbed against…found somewhat itchy and sore…

i am hoping there is an alternative to the plaquenil before i commit to using it

Hi Nikki

I tried it for 3 months, sadly with no results.

Hopefully it works out for you!

Tracy

Hi PamelaSue

You and I have taken the same treatment paths. Unfortunately, none of them worked for me. I wish you better luck than I had!
