Hi everyone, I'm booked to have this surgery in September but am still really worried about it!
my cyst doesn't hurt or bother me at all at the moment! Could you tell me your experiences of this operation from start to finish healing?
how sore was it? When were you able to drive after? Where u able to carry on as normal after?
I'm worried as I have 2 young children and I'm childminding! I am having the opp on a Fri and have the Monday off but I have to get back to work on the tues and be able to drive for school pick ups :o(
also, was all your stitches inside your lady bits? Did it look different from the outside? If that makes sense?
many thanks for all your help! I'd really appreciate all the details you can give me!
Hi Debbie
try the salt baths before hand ... and it may go in its own.. it did for me years ago and i could feel mine it was like a walnut size... my doc said have salt 3 baths a day... as warm as you can with a cup full of salt... allowing it to get inside... this happened to unclog the pore. ( its a lubricating gland) and i did this for only a few days and mine was gone.. Jay xx. it was normal fine table salt ...
Thanku! I tried just plain warm baths but not with salt so will give that a go! X
hi debbie
its worth a try, it may work and you wont need to go for the other..
its sorted mine out... he said it would and it did ..
i had no pain .. but i felt it kneeling... i had a saxa table salt on the bath, i tried to have 3 as warm as possible baths, two would be okay if thats possible too, run the hot water only to dissolve the salt first, waft about to dissolve, you only need it filled as high as the tops of legs ... sounds abit odd to say.. but encourage the water to get inside you , and it should work for you.. good luck sweetie Jay xx
Hi. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I had my op done on a Friday n was back to work on a Tuesday. I'm not saying I had a miracle recovery as I still had some discomfort but it was so much better than the pain I was in before surgery. I was able to walk around freely n drive.
I would defo go for it before you do start getting pain because u ain't going to be able to drive or do school pick ups if it gets infected. It's excruciating.
it's a million times less painful than an abcess...
if your surgeon is a good one, you will feel well again in 3-4 days...
get a good surgeon, otherwise you might end up with nerve damage from botched procedures...
the endless cysts down there caused me to have nerve pain
Thanku! Mine doesn't hurt at all so I have no comparison with an abcess but I had an episiotomy when my son was born and needed stitched inside and out and was really uncomfortable, hoping it will be no worse than that
oh, uhm,,,... well you're lucky you don't have chronic pain from the incision
basically the marsup. does not change anything in terms of aesthetics, it just makes an extra "hole" at the opening of your vagina
unfortunately, the bartholin gland has the structure of a honeycomb so you can have a cyst anyway....if it clogs along the way ....
Hi Debbie,
I actually had two bartholins cysts, one of which had a bad abscess in marsupialised today! I'm not in any pain, just some slight discomfit, just taking some paracetamol as a precaution. I actually popped into the supermarket with my fiancé on the way home from the hospital to get something for tea and have been out for a short walk, I might feel differently tomorrow when all the anaesthetic is out of my system but I'll let you know! Like you I was worried about how painful the op would be and as I've successfully been able to treat things at home for quite a few years I was definitely in two minds about having it done but so far I'm very pleased with the results and have no regrets. The incisions are inside the inner labia and I would say the two little wounds are about about the size of the top of a pencil. My nurse recommended putting Vaseline on to keep the stitches supple so the don't dry out and get prickly and to help form a bit of a barrier, so might be worth getting a little pot if you do go ahead. I'll let you know if it works. If there is anything else you'd like to ask just let me know.
All the best, Michelle
Hi Michelle
Thank you so much for your reply! I'm glad your not in too much pain especially having had 2 marsups! Thanks for sharing your experience! It's makes me feel a lot better!
Did you have a general anesthetic? Where did you have it done? Which hospital? If you don't mind me asking?
How are you finding sitting? Weeing and sitting in the car? My main worry is about driving as I will need to take and collect my son from school!
Please do let me know how your getting on in a few days! I really hope it doesn't become too sore for you and hope you heal nice and quickly!
Thank you so much again!
Debbie
Hi Michelle
well done hun... glad all went okay..
go steady with the vaseline... as it does prevent healing and vaseline can cause infection as attracts germs etc.....
hope you dont mind me commenting... but its not the best advice vaseline, only thinking about your healing thats all...
i understand the nurse saying keeps skin moisturised, but i wouldnt use vaseline ...

Hi Debbie,
Glad to be of help! Some of the things I'd read on the internet beforehand had me worried so wanted to be able to share a positive experience. I had my op at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, great team, couldn't fault them. I did have a general anaesthetic but it seemed different to ones I've had previously, took a little bitter longer to go off than before but seemed to recover much better. Going to the loo is fine. A reasonable amount of blood the first time on the ward but nothing since and not sore. Sitting has been ok as long as I'm a bit careful but no more so than with the abscess. I won't be giving driving a go until Monday, so I give the general anaesthetic time to clear my system. I'll let you know how it goes!
All the best Michelle
That's great I'm really pleased that your pretty comfortable! I'm having my op on a fri and will prob need to drive on the Monday but definatly the tues! I had a large episiotomy when I had my son and had stitches inside and out which was very unconfortable so I'm hoping it's no worse than that as I know I coped with that! Lol x
Hi Jaynnejay,
Thanks for the advice, I certainly wouldn't want to point people in the wrong direction so thanks for replying! I wasn't planning on slathering myself up, just applying if and when the stitches start to get rigid, but much hoping they won't anyway. Hoping that regular baths will just keep everything clean and healing nicely. Thanks again for the advice, very much appreciated.
All the best, Michelle
I haven't had kids yet so I'm afraid I can't offer a direct comparison but I will happily admit I don't have the highest pain threshold in the world!
Hi Michelle
haahaha
hope heals well for you.... all the best..
salt baths are good and soothing... great healer...
and strong salt baths ( bath water as hot as possible allowing the salt water to enter) can open the blocked pore of a cyst and draw out the fluid.. i cured mine this way, these were my Doctors orders years ago... may help some ladies to try.. take care and take it easy ...
Jay xx
Lol :o) it was very uncomfortable! But I managed to cope with it on barely any painkillers as I was breastfeeding so am keeping my fingers crossed that marsup will be a walk in the park compared to that! :o)
I totally second that, they have managed to sort mine out many times in the past! I only went for the op as they had started flaring up so frequently. The salt baths helped me avoid the op for quite a few years so definitely something to try. Thanks again for the advice. : )
I've only got a few stitches so I think your previous experience will have been worse. I'll give you an update on the driving as soon as I've given it a whirl. Now off to sleep of the last of my anaesthetic, speak to you soon.
All the best, Michelle
