6 weeks ago i posted pics on here of my unclear “lesions” that appeared a week after meeting someone new. mixed reviews in this forum as they didnt look like typical sores. 2 days later i saw a walk in clinic doctor who preformed a swab of the lesions. he told me he doesnt think it looks like herpes, but its a 50 50 chance… 2 days later, he calls me and tells me the swab test is negative for herpes. by this time, the sores are completely gone. infact, i had only had them for 3 days total and by day 4 i did not see anything. there was no oozing or crusting - just sort of painful cysts. he then calls me again 2 days after this and tells me my bloodwork came back positive for hsv1. to my understanding, most people carry the hsv1 virus and it can be picked up as early as your childhood. i ask him what this means. and he says “those are most definitely genital herpes based on this test”.
i guess I’m just confused because i could have always carried hsv1 for a long time, and my swab came back negative? yet he is telling me he has no doubt in his mind that those were genital herpe lesions based off my bloodwork. can someone clarify for me?
