Hi I just found this forum/discussion thing when I was searching symptoms for whatever has been happening to my face. I've been to doctors and dermatologists and they usually just say "it's an allergy" or a reaction etc etc. but anyway I am 16 and I have been having symptoms that could link me to Blepharitis since I was about 14, when ever it flares up (maybe 3-4 times a month) it stays flared up for anywhere between 3-10 days. And it goes very puffy and almost raw like, I have dermatitis (which could explain it) and also my eyes constantly water (maybe blocked tear ducts (doctor said 'maybe' dry eyes but treatment didn't help)) I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this is actually Blepharitis, and if so what could I do to treat/control it.
did you see an eye doctor? before you treat the problem, be sure of what it is. Dena
I'd ask your GP to refer you to an eye specialist. You need a precise diagnosis then you can follow home treatments ( cleaning eyelids and eye margins, along with warm compresses) alongside any treatment an eye specialist prescribes.
i had some weird and wonderful diagnoses before I got to see the consultant---- best were from 2 eye nurses, with "it's your age, it's bound to happen" and " it's because you had your eyes lasered ( 8 years before) the implication was I'd brought it on myself!
mine is related to the skin condition Rosecea. Good luck---be insistent if GP tries to fob you off..
Hi, Your reply to Nicki23 interested me because I too suffer from rosacea as well as blepharitis and your connection is the first I've heard. My rosacea I can't do much about but the blepharitis I control with a coal tar based shampoo, use EVERY day, first thing. An opthalometrist I knew also recommended taking doxycycline every day, this regime has kept my eyes clear of crustiness, itching, meibomian infections and all the other nasties, five years now since problem started.
Hi David,
Rosacea is definitely a part of it. I was diagnosed with blepharitis, chronic dry eyes and ocular rosecea.
My blepharitis is horrendous at the moment. Cannot get it under control.
Doxycyline would be on prescription? How do you use the coal tar shampoo? Even baby shampoo seems to be making my eyes worse.
Pits such a miserable condition.
for Rodecea I buy cortisone cream OTC and use it sparingly, plus sun block every day.
Doxycycline would be on prescription. The shampoo I use is called Capasal, it was originally prescribed for seborrheic dermatitis, I suggest talking to a pharmacist about its availibity. I can't guarantee this treatment but it seems to work for me where lid scrubs, tea bags etc didn't.
Thanks for the information.
Hi David,
So do you apply the shampoo anywhere near or around your eyes? I just was wondering, and would be weary about using any shampoo that close to my eyes.
Mark,
Hello Mark, I first wash my hair with the Capasal and without rinsing off wash my face with the same lather especially around the eyes but keeping my eyes closed, I then wash the rest of myself with shower gel, next I restart the shower and rinse off, carefully wiping my closed eyes in an outward sweeping motion if that makes sense.
