Please help, I'm getting ridiculously anxious 😥 Are these noises normal?

Hi I'm 35, I had my first thr's in 1997/98, they were metal on metal I believe? They did a fantastic job for me and lasted 16 years before I had to have them revised 1 1/2 yrs ago! Ceramic on metal I believe? I should note at this point that I'm really over anxious about my hips in general as they went wrong at 16 yrs quite dramatically, they kind of fell apart! The plastic liners eroded then fell out of position and I squeezed/clunked/popped/ pretty much every noise came out of my old hips! These noises traumatised me (a bit crazy as I've been through worse!) and so I've been hyper vigilant about noises ever since. I've noticed that revisions aren't quite as good as primary's but I can't put my finger on why, however I'm so pleased with them and feel very blessed to have such a great surgeon. However, 2 weeks ago I began to notice a almost silent noise (if that even makes sense?) in both of them, I can't put my finger on what movement causes them as it seems a bit random?? But now I'm freaking out and thinking they are beginning to fail already! My rational brain thinks they can't be failing as they're not even 2 yrs old, I didn't have any trauma happen either! Now I don't know whether to rush to my surgeon for a X-ray or stop panicking as it may just be normal revision noises? Does anyone else have any experiences of this? Or any opinions?

thank you soooooo much for taking the time to reply

ps I think all of us are fab xxx

I know what you mean. I get the occasional quiet distinct click, when I rotate on the hip, I think it may be a tendon clicking rather then the hip joint. Walking straight ahead, I sometimes get a sensation of hip joint parting just a fraction and then coming back together, metal on metal feeling, but I noticed it more immediatly after my surgery, seems less now time has gone past, and all muscles have tightened up.

Put your Monday ease....go have it x-rayed. At least then you'll know.

That  was supposed to read; Put your mind at ease..

Good Morning

As stated by other contributors - go and have it looked at / xrayed it will do 1 of 2 things:-

hopefully put you mind at rest

or indicate the source of the noise

Not knowing and imagining all sorts of things is worse for you I am sure - have it checked - good luck

dear sugarplum

I agree with others - go and have it checked out - especially since you  had such a traumatic event -

big warm hug

Thanks everyone! I'm currently sat in my GP's waiting room! I'll let you all know 💗

Fingers crossed for you sugarplum x  Very interested to hear the outcome as my ten yr old ceramic hip is making a clunking noise at the rear of my hip, in the butt, at every step as the leg reaches the end of it's stroke. Noisy enough for other people to hear! No pain though - just quite disconcerting.  Have a referral to my consultant, and trying not to worry. Take care x

I had a knee replacement 10 years ago, but 2 years ago I trod on a wobbly rock and the replacement dislocated. I felt over and broke my leg in 3 places. I'm terrified all the time of falling over. I'm more timid than I should be. Trauma lives on.

I'm interested that it's both hips you're having trouble with. I would think it unlikely that you have the same trouble with both hips at the same time. I hope so anyway. All the best with the doctor.

I think it's better to x-rayed and checked it my dear it's makes you sure about your condition and can give u relife

Big hug
