Hello all
I today had my second upper endoscopy in 10 months my first one was normal just some reflux but today im scared. The findings are as listed

I have read about barretts but ive only had thia for a year? Has it been damaged so much.i tried talking to the nurses but she said its nothing, but i dont know.has anyone experienced this?
Thank you
I think that Barretts Wessex may reply to you. With information but go on thief website.. Do you mean you do not have barretts.the hospital will check that out and give you something like lansoprazole to control the acid and help healing and then you may be advised to be on a maintenance dose (possibly for ever) if you have some barrets cells do not panic, as they are not cancer. But as your oesophageal cells may have changed to barretts then they could change again so they will give you an endoscopy after a few years to check and if they do change they have procedures to remove them. You are being watched... That is good. If you have no barretts then you will not be on a programme and will just have to make sure you find your trigger foods for acid reflux and try to reduce the possibility of acid coming up from your stomach as well as using the acid inhibitor tablets I am sure they will give you. Good luck
Hi Kareen,
You have oesophagitis but not Barrett's.
The LA classification determines how bad your oesophagitis is.
From the Down With Acid book:
Grade A: one or more mucosal breaks no longer than 5 mm, none of which extends between the tops of the mucosal folds.
Grade B: one or more mucosal breaks more than 5 mm long, none of which extends between the tops of two mucosal folds.
Grade C: mucosal breaks that extend between the tops of two or more mucosal folds, but which involve <75% of the mucosal circumference
Grade D: mucosal breaks which involve ≥75% of the mucosal circumference
A course of acid suppressants should permit the inflammation to reduce and let the oesophagus heal. It may take a few weeks. Thereafter you will need to manage your acid and reflux by identifying your own particular triggers to avoid.
All the best
So there is no bad or permanent damage?
Am i going to heal completely?
I just was put on zantac in the morning a week ago.
Zantac (ranitidine) is an H2 blocker that blocks the messages from the brain for the stomach to make acid. With the acid reduced, you should heal.
Thank you so much i have been on and off them for a year but this time im sticking to them
Thanks
