Hello- I haven't posted on here in a while as I think I've had my ibs under control until now. I'm 19 years old and Last night i had the worst ibs attack I have ever had and now I'm really worried. It started yesterday at about 5pm , 2 hours after id eaten French stick with garlic cheese and a doughnut- two hours later I started to have tummy cramps and felt really sick- I tried eating dinner but couldn't manage it and went to bed with a hot water bottle and I started to feel a bit better and went to sleep- BUT an hour later at around midnight I woke with the worst pain in my tummy id ever felt and I thought I was going to be sick and had a real urge to go to the toilet so ran and had a bowel movement it wasn't watery but just loose with no form. After this i still had the sick feeling and thought i was going to puke but i didn't. I was in bed with the most excruciating stomach pains i took an antispasmodic but it didn't work.. I was uncontrollably shaking kept needing a wee and was really thirsty and didn't get to sleep until half three. Now my muscles back and tummy feel really sore maybe from the shaking and straining but I'm worried its more than ibs. I've had mris, stool samples, blood tests and im seeing a dietician in january- but so far everything is shown normal. Please help me, are these symptoms normal for an ibs attack? Was it the garlic cheese? Any feedback would be so appreciated thanks- maisie xx
Hi there Hun
You poor think Ibs can do this suddenly flare and it couls be the glaric and cheese, as cheese is a dairy and things like that arragvate it terrible but it could be alot of things like stress realted and that, pheraps you need a stronger pain killer that would help you when my ibs flares like that it does make throw up and my stools seem lose but not running like water you are going to feel sore and it does make me shake violenty because like you say the pain is shocking, if it doesnt settle soon my advice would be go get checkedout and ask for stronger painkillers like tramdol, not co codomol as they can make ibs worse
Hope this help take care hun
all the best

Thank you for your reply! I am a very anxious person and it is really difficult to control- also my ibs attacks usually happen at night and wake me up with pain and wind- others say that's this is not typical of ibs but some say it is so I don't know whether it is normal or not xx
Sorry to hear about your pain.
Please avoid dairy and sugar. Drink lots of water like 3-4 litre a day. Go for walk every day and yess no stress please. Get rid of things that are making your anxious as the food changes wont help if you maintain high stress level or anxiety. Goodluck!
Hello there,
I know what you are going through, some how we convince ourselves we are OK and don't need to follow the rules anymore. I have done it so many times with coffee that I have had to throw the stuff away so I am not tempted.
For you it was garlic, cheese and probably white bread. This combination would totally destroy me for about 24 hours.
I would be very surprised if there was anything physically wrong with you, you just need to remember the things which will cause your IBS to flare up and for many of us that means no to wheat, milk, cheese, citrus fruit, coffee and alcohol.
Remember, we are all different so you must work out which of these applies to you. Some people suggest that keeping a food diary is a good idea.
If I eat the wrong things my body goes into complete panic, gives me pain in the colon, diarrhoea and stops me sleeping properly.
Hope you feel better soon and I wish you a happy Christmas.
Best wishes
Robert
