I have had bowel issues for the last 7/8 years. I have had blood and stool tests for celiac and gluten intolerences, diary intolerences, everything, and everything has come back normal. Ive had a barium x-ray (normal) and a CT scan of my bowel which showed I was 'impacted' and the gastro I was seeing at the time simply prescribed really strong laxatives which have caused nothing but more symptoms of nausea, bloating and diareah in an attempt to clear my bowel.
I suffer from bloating, nausea, infrequent upper abdominal pain, gas with wind, and anything I eat seems to go straight to my bowel making it feel bulky and impacted straight after I eat even though Im constipated. I spend hours in the bathroom everyday trying to pass stools and feel like I havent 'gone' properly had my bowel is just generally sore and, bulky. Ive tried eliminating pretty much all foods on the FODMAP diet and everything containing gluten and nothing has helped. Im at a point where Im eating very little because im frustrated and cant bare to eat in fear that im going to feel sick and uncomfortable (which means im now very underweight).
If you have IBS ask your doctor for an antispasmodic like Buscopan and try Nurofen with it. If you have constipation try fruit or a short term laxative. If you get diarrhoea, try Imodium or codeine. Foods like rice or bananas can also help. If food is a problem, try a food diary or the low Fodmap diet. Try distraction techniques to reduce stress levels. Light exercise or a hobby will help.
Sounds like me. I get terrible upper stomachache. My tummy constantly gurgles, my stomach is always bloated, always passing wind and feeling sick. I've been suffering the past week and nothing is helping. I'm constipated too. I've lost my apitite as the food just sloshes around in my tummy after and I get heartburn. It's making me exhausted
Have you tried taking an intestinal adsorbent such as Enterosgel? - works a treat for my IBS - I actually got a good night's sleep last night for the first time in three days. Really quietens down the pain and sorts out your digestive system.
Oh boy, you sound like me. The one thing I don't have is anything impacted. BUT, that being said, I go from IBS D to IBS C and I am there now. Last week Monday from 1 Am to 4:30 AM I was in the bathroom, literally, not being able to get further than walking out the door just to turn back. I couldn't move anything and had dry heaves. So, I sat there waiting to go with horrific stomach pains , abdominal pains and dry heaves for about 2 hours, then the last hours, my body switched to a constant flow of liquid from one end and actual vomiting stuff up from the other. It was a nightmare. Saw my gastroenterologist yesterday, just have to wait it out for now and slowly increase foods. She also gave me the FODmap diet sheet. I have been living on potato, chicken broth, unsalted saltines, rice and eggs since. Yesterday had a cucumber and 2 tiny tomatoes in some vinegar and oil. I was desperate!!! Also, had a Coke and some gingerale, desperation makes you do foolish things. So, I can relate. Listen, my previous gastro doctor denied anything wrong with me because several months before symptoms of UC developed I had a normal colonoscopy. I was bleeding for 5 months and during that time he kept telling me to eat more fiber and more fiber. There is nothing worse for ulcerated colitis than fiber. Finally, I walked into his office and said if he didn't do something I was reporting him. I had another colonoscopy and that's when he found I had ulcerated colitis. I found a new doctor immediately. IT was a nightmare of a year during that time on high doses of steroids. I have been clear of the UC for several years but my IBS is an acute problem when I have flare ups which, I might add, can last from 2 weeks to a month and then it takes about a month to clear and I get back to normal. It does take a long time to straighten yourself out if you can so patience is hard to come by. I rarely do dairy but I do when I am in remission. I love many of the foods on the DO NOT EAT part of that FODMAP list like garlic, cabbage, onions....three staple foods in my diet unfortunately and I won't give them up. Watch out for fatty food like potato chips and fries. Another two loves of mine. Sigh, it's so hard and I love drinking Coke and have all my life. I still do drink it and I do think now that I have a problem not so much with the carbonation, but the fructose. So I cheat and buy the Coke from Mexico because that has sugar. What else do you want to know? Anything else I can help you with, I am here. Also, the nausea is ongoing and hasn't let up for me especially when I get up in the mornings due to my present state. I take Ondansetron ODT which is a generic Zofram and I insist on the one made by the company named Mylan, I think that is how it is spelled, I can find out for you if you are interested. I use only that brand and CVS gets it for me because the pill can be broken in half easily (sometimes that is all it takes), and it's mint. Other brands are fruit flavored and just make me more nauseated.
