I am on day 12 of the citalopram and woke up today just feeling very off. I cant describe really exactly how I felt but I just didn't feel good. Then I went out for a bit and about blacked out with a panic attack I think. I just all the sudden felt this rush through me and felt like I w as s going to black out. It has been a few hours and it seems to have subsided some but is not completely gone. Is this normal to get like this on the medicine? I wasnt having this before the medicine just alot of anxiety. I am worried and I don't know if I should just keep pushing forward or if this medicine isn't right for me.
There can be some bad side effects for the first 2 - 3 weeks mainly the first 2. But that shouldn't happen? Are you sure it was from the Citalopram? Maybe you should tell your doctor, they may have to reduce your dosage for a while. But yeah provided it's safe for you and you are not getting unwell I would definitely say stick it out. It can take up to 4 - 6 and even 8 weeks to fully work but it's worth the wait. I would tell your doctor what happened today xx
Hey Melissa, I’m really sorry to hear that this is happening to you. I’ve been on 20mg of Citalopram for almost 2 years now. I remember the first month was really hard for me to adjust as this is the first and only medication I’ve ever taken daily. I have never ‘blacked out’ on the medication. I did however have: constant yawning, headaches, increased anxiety and weight gain. I would consider calling your doctor. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon.
Hi Melissa... I'd say it's definitely your Meds that have caused this. I started on citalipram and was very ill on it. I was weak, dry heaving, hightend anxiety, and I also had hellucinations. I was taken off it straight away. I hope that it all settles down for you soon but it does take a good few weeks for things to settle. X
Hi jj,
I am unsure if it was the citalopram or not. I just felt panicked but because I was out I did well to make it not seem as so. My mom was with me and she had no idea because I tried to hide how I was feeling internally. I haven't noticed feeling any improvement yet on the medicine. I sure hope this increases in the anxiety doesn't last that long because it is making me start to weaken.
I have called my dr several times and left messages and still have received no response. I think it might be typical for some of us with anxiety because the dr does not feel that it is urgent even though it feels like it is to us.
Thank you so much for your help!
Thank you nnelso,
I really hope this medicine works also as I really do not want to have to try another medicine. It took me weeks to convince myself to even take this one. My symptoms are dry mouth, s we eating it I am having anxiety attack. Feeling spaced out, tightness and in my jaw (maybe from clenching), tension, then I would almost say maybe panic attack at least the one yesterday had to be because I get anxiety but that one I just blacked out for a split second. Very odd!
Thank you for your response!
Thank you leanne,
I keep trying to find reassurance that this is only medicine and something isn't wrong. When something stalrange like that happens it's very hard to not overthink it. Did the dr feel like the medicine wasnt right for you by those symptoms? How long did you take the medicine for? I have tried paxil and zoloft way back and neither of those worked for me so I decided to give it another try.
Thank you for helping me!
Hi Melissa,
If the Dr thinks it's ok and the symptoms are normal I would definitely definitely try to stick it out. I would HIGHLY recommend Citalapram, it works sooooo well!! BUT you have to get through the next week or so. I would suggest booking an appointment ASAP (tell them you need to see them today!!). And ask them if you can have a short supply of Diazepam to get you through the next week or two. This is a normal thing for doctors to do! Diazepam is not suitable long term as it's addictive etc but for a few weeks it will REALLY help you!! Don't be afraid to ask the Dr for help, maybe if possible you can take your mum with you to the Dr that way they will take you more seriously. I REALLY hope you feel better soon xxxx
I wish my mom could go with me but she lives in another city and was just down for the day.
I too hope I can stay on the medicine I don't want to start over on anything else. I put a call into the dr and got the leave a message with his MA so I am hoping I will hear from them soon. Thank you for helping me calm down. It really scared me when that happened.
Yeah good, keep calling your Dr. But don't worry you will be fine xx in a few weeks time you will be so happy and relaxed and you will be having fun everyday xxxx
I was on it 2 weeks... the doctors did take me off because of my side effects, it was the hellucinations that did it for me they was horrible I was seeing my kids dead infront of me. I can assure u that most of your symptoms will be side effects from your Meds. I was also put on fluoxotine but didn't suit that either, medication is trial and error some suit some don't. I eventually settled on mirtazapine and venlafaxine. I also have olanzapine so I'm pretty medicated now... I have good days and bad days still, Today is a bad day. But I'm sure we will all get better eventually x
Hi Melissa
I have just Gone onto them but I got a itch feeling all over so I came off them
I sure hope so. It's sad that we have to be medicated out of our minds. I keep thinking I have so much to do but cant seem to get any of it done. Cant wait for this to calm down. I hope yours does as well. I have noticed that some days are a bit easier then others. Right now it's not so bad for me but had anxiety attack this morning. Just one minute to the next.
That would be very scary to have hallucinations in general let alone about your children. I cant believe it caused that, that is scary. So far no hallucinations for me thank goodness. Just that blackout thing. It w as s for a split second and thankfully u was sitting down or maybe I would of ended up on my face. Yikes! I really hate the trial and error.
I had an itchy throat and it was sore for about a week. It was after i would take the pill it made my throat itch and it would be sore for hours. But that has gone away now or at least I don't notice it anymore.
Oh I can't wait! I look forward to not being consumed by this! Hey if we all get better then there is gonna have to be a new forum for recovered people. Lol just a thought. Hehe
Haha YESSSS!!!!
I was the same way. I had a whole bottle of Citalopram for weeks before I decided to take it. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Of course, I still have bad days but it’s very rare and it’s not even close to as bad as I was before the Citalopram. I would suggest sticking it out and continuing at least for another week. That’s just my personal opinion, however I’m not a professional. Like I mentioned earlier I really think you should call your doctor and tell them about the blacking out situation you had. The other symptoms however are completely normal. I hope you start to feel better soon.
