Hi guys I'm 28 and around 7 weeks ago I was diagnosed with overactive thyroid. I'm on 20mg carbimazole and 40mg 3 times a day for propanolol.
The symtoms started to calm down a few weeks after the meds I had racing heartbeat panic attacks any new sensation would send me into panic mode. A few weeks ago I had a migraine for a week and the palpations went away but now they are back and worse... come and go all day which they didn't before and the headache is gone. Just need a little help in dealing with all the symtoms and any advise or similar experience you guys have had I'm due to start a new job Monday and im worried to death about how it's going to affect me at work I just want to know how long the symtoms will carry on.
Hi, are you in the UK? The heatwave has affected my symptoms and made them worse. Don't over think it and do as little as possible, you need to rest. You will be getting stressed about starting your new job which will make you worse. Unfortunately you are not going to feel great. When is your next blood test?

Thanks for the reply...just had one and my levels where 17 and 0.2.
The worst is the fluttering heartbeat not even sure if that's a palpation. Have you experienced this ?
Hi I had severe anxiety first time round, but my levels were in the 90's I was very poorly. My T4 is 35 now and I started shaking and sweating so I realised it was back after 3 years. The palpitations are normal as is the fluttering - I had heart tests and was completely paranoid. Nights were worse. You are on beta blockers so everything will start to settle down. The worst thing you can do is worry, I know you will. My Endo thought I was bonkers and couldn't understand why I was so stressed. This time round I know what is happening and I am resting and taking the meds. Please rest and also try relaxation breathing. Stay out of the heat, have water with you and relax. xx
You say the fluttering is normal ! Is it normal to have them all day after 7 weeks of carbimazole and propanolol ? Curious??
Back again - my readings were very high. 12.5IU/L (0-1.5), TSH <0.01, fT3 33, fT4 92
Kieronv, the fluttering could be due to digestion or "gut" issues. I hope Dan or someone else knowledgeable comes by. They can better explain the connection between gut and immune/thyroid etc. Aside from thyroid issues, I've had those flutters off/on almost my entire life. Mine is from digestion or indigestion, depending upon what and how much I eat. Have you noticed any indigestion when you get the flutters or thumps? Someone else recently posted symptoms like this due to acid reflux I think. Gas can lodge in your chest or under ribs and cause this. Hormones can also cause heart flutters. I used to get adrenaline rushes 30 minutes after falling asleep that woke me with tachycardia every single night when I was young. Stopped after hysterectomy, indicating it was hormonal. I understand how this can cause anxiety, especially with a new job. I hope you feel better.
hugs
Jaye
Hi kieronv, you asked about the likely duration of your thyroid problems. That all depends on the nature of your thyroid disorder. In a best-case scenario, you have a transient inflammation of your thyroid (due to a viral infection) that will subside after a few weeks.
Other possible thyroid disorders are thyroid nodules and autoimmune thyroid disorders. In very rare circumstances patients may have secondary hyperthyroidism and the problem is caused by a misfunctioning of the pituitary gland or the hypothalamus. In any case, anti-thyroid medication should provide relief within a few weeks.
Regarding the fluttering feeling in your throat area and the shortness of breath, this might be caused by (very short) atrial fibrillations. When I experienced this symptom my thyroid was slightly enlarged and might have been pressing on my windpipe and/or constricting blood vessels. The fluttering disappeared after my thyroid hormone levels approached normal levels.
