Please tell me about policies of rehabilitation facilities

If my hip replacement doctor order a week in a rehab fac., do you think that there will be any such rehab f's that allow my caretaker who puts on my socks and shoes now and keeps me in Parkinsons medicines on time and gets me in and out of a car, can actually move in WITH me in the rehab. place for the week?

I don't know . Have you had your operation on your hip yet--your hip replacement operation?

I'm relatively young but spend the avg amount of time in a rehab hospital-10 days.  My whole body was just so wrecked after the surgery-GI shut down and BP extremely low .   It was a big rehab associated with major hospital.  Best advice I can give is to get a private room.  They very generous about visitors but you'd have to call about any overnight accommodations-maybe possible in a private room.  There was wait list for them at my location.  But boy if you significantly compromises so much so as you can't get to the bathroom without help, having added help will make great difference.  The food isn't great unless you have "nice talk" with dietary management-then maybe you'll be taken care of.- They'll try to stab you with TB tests and may tell you its mandatory-its not. The PT will come right at breakfast but you have to push for what is best for you..all the time-.. its better than reg hospital but you lucky to have someone help..  If you have roommate, you at mercy of their constant TV, marinating in poo mist, the flourescent lighting and worst of all the room temperature..-- If I had someone to help me , wouldn't have had ambulance dump me up on my bed and have that caretaker in my home..

The PT and OT are very skillful but you really mostly need to rest up, eat well and do little at a time.. that doesn't get to happen so readily in some rehabs..

I am planning on going to a rehab facility after my surgery in a few days. I checked out a number of highly ranked ones near me that are covered by my insurance, and I found one that is fantastic - more like a spa/fine hotel, with beautiful facilities, excellent PT, goo, . From what I understand, they handle all your medications and bring them to you when it is time to take them. The only med that I am allowed to bring from home is my albuterol inhaler. They also help you with everything you need help with, including dressing, bathing, etc., and work with you until you can do it all yourself. They use the directions for PT that come from your surgeon, as everyone's needs are different. There are great rehabs and not-so-good ones. You have to do your homework ahead of time to select the one you want and find out their specific policies. Best wishes for your THR!

Where I said "goo", I meant to say good food and great staff.

dear active,

warm welcome to our forum of hippies -

I am assuming that you will get THR surgery and your surgeon wants you to go to rehab after surgery ..- he probably has a good reason to give you this advice -

Not sure how to answer your question ... Do you have a 24 hours caretaker?

I agree with Annie that while in rehab facility, you will be taken care of - medications are given on time as wel help with washing and dressing - meals and excercises are part of your stay as well - you will feel so much more confident and stronger when you get home ...

And of course you can always ask if your caretaker can stay with you ...

when is your THR surgery scheduled?

big warm hug
