can having pleural effusion in the lungs cause oxygen levels to remain at good levels but still unable to breath
My oxygen levels were 98% and there was no sound when the doctor listened to my chest (creaking etc) but two days later I was in hospital in excruciating pain with a good third of my lung capacity reduced from fluid around my lungs.
Thats insane. Were your oxygen levels good? My husband kept saying he couldnt breathe and needed the oxygen to help. Finally theyd a CT Scan of the left lung had collapsed and full of fluid. They ended up removing 1400 CCs of fluid from the lungs.....
I'm not sure about when I was actually in hospital, just the two days prior. I think the doctor was trying to tell me it was in my head, hence measuring my oxygen, he told me my intercostal muscles were pinching on my nerves and causing chest pain, despite 6 weeks earlier having a small pleural effusion. I I was then diagnosed with the bilateral one in hospital! Very different to your husband though, my lung didn't collapse. I hope he's doing okay now.
This happened to me. My oxygen was up at 98% but still could not breath . It was horrible cos Doctor said u are fine but really I was not, and it wasn't cos of my asthma .
Well I think something needs to be done about this. So many patients are not being treated fairly and sent home, only to end up back in the ER.
Hi, I'm steve. I'm 57 yrs. And I've been dealing w pleurisy for 6 months now. And answer to your question, in my case yes. I've had 3 trips to the E.R. and all times they check my oxygen level. And it's fine,great oxygen saturation. I've had my right lung pleura, drained of fluid three times now, about 2 litres each time.
I've still no answer yet as to cause. Am scheduled to see pulmonary specialist soon.
