hi all been with pmr 5 years down to 2mr pred, my story is i have never really been able to lay flat on my back since i was a teenager, but just lately it has got worse. so much i can hardly walk ,, its right at the base of my spine. but when i get up and walk around for 10 minutes, it goes, or near enough. i dont think its pmr coming back. so i am not upping the pred. any sugestions on what it could be
No suggestions other than I think you need to see your GP. Lower back pain can be caused by so many different things including osteoarthritis that finding what it isn't could be the key.
Hi Pauline - I have osteoarthritis in my lower spine (facet joints) and right hip and also PMR. I agree with Nefret, I think your pain could well be arthritis and certainly would suggest you get checked out. Hope they can help you. Best wishes Sarah
I also think after the GP you should see a physiotherapist. Physiotherapy over the years has worked to keep me upright and functioning. I don't recommend a chiropractor as my family had bad experiences with them and they would in any event likely be too hard on a body with PMR. But a physiotherapist who REALLY understands pmr can be a godsend, as you don't want when treating one thing (the back) to harm another (pmr/pred weakened muscles).
