Im on a roll today, asking two questions. first, correction: i got pmr in 2016, not 2015, as stated incorrectly in my previous post. here is this question: decades before i got pmr, i had chronic pain, to make a long story short, ive seen 80 doctors across the u.s., been to mayo twice, had horrible things done to me, nothing helped. was always told "pain causes inflammation." blood work always perfect, until the onset of pmr. bloodwork is now perfect again, but of course i have pmr and i still have the same chronic pain that i had pre-pmr, (interesting to note that over the years i also saw psychics, soothsayers, healers, acupuncturists, etc., every single one, i seldom told them why i was there, all said across the board: "you are burning up with inflammation." as an aside, none of them helped but i always thought their pronouncements were spot on). anyway, since i have this preexisting chronic pain and we know pain causes inflammation, can i ever recover from pmr, do you think? im using dsns, currently going to 5 mg pred. thanks!
I’d have said that was putting the cart before the horse - inflammation causes pain! Did the pain ever go at high doses of pred?
Pain does not cause inflammation. Inflammation causes pain.
no, always present. injuries from old car accident when i was in college, and a labral tear in right hip 7 years ago (which was helped immensely but not erased by physical therapy.)
ok, still same question: if you have pre-existing inflammation (resulting in pain), can you recover from pmr?
The PMR may go away - it does for most people. Whether you can tell or not is another matter.
lHi Twopies, I’m so sorry that you suffer this chronic pain. Living with that must be unbearable. I was wondering if you could be suffering from a rare disorder called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which impairs the central nervous system and heightens pain sensation. It is difficult to diagnose, but since you’ve been to 80 doctors and Mayo Clinic without a real dx, that could be a possibility. It was diagnosed to a severely ill young girl by a Tampa, Fl physician, backed up by 2 others. Just a wild thought! To answer your question does PMR ever go away? Mine (after 2 1/2 yrs) left me last June, no more pred. I reduced very slowly, 1/2 mg. at a time. Good luck to you.
no, they ruled that out. my chronic pain isnt constant, well, i mean im always aware that the affected areas are there. the neck injury gives me a myofascial headache if i do too much. the labral tear flares up if i do too much. so im pretty limited in my physical activity. pre-pmr i walked 10000 steps a day. the headaches didnt start until 1999, decades after the car accident. now i cant sit in a low back chair for more than a couple hours. the pmr just adds to the mix. i am hoping like everyone else that i can get over pmr and get my muscles moving again. thank you for your kind response.
oh phooey, i hope so!
forgot–my sister in law had complex regional pain syndrome following a broken arm. awful stuff! it finally got better.
Why not?
a million smiley faces, eileen!
