I'm so sorry for what you are going through all on top of PMR.  It's tough.  I did have a shingles injection a couple iyears ago, but my internest volunteered that I could get shingles inspite of the shot.  I feel for you.  No doubt as you say since your immune system has been compromised.  Hope you get throught this without too much difficulty!

I feel a bit of a fraud on shingles. I visited doc with swollen leg. Up the pred to 25 for a couple of days. Discussed possibility of shingles. One  blister appeared within an hour of seeing doc, so back for another consult. Either just very mild or the anti-virals worked.

With pmr we are apparently at risk of shingles as the virus can be dormant but wakens either due to our messed up immune system or a side effect of the pred on our immune system.

Hi Jean,

Sorry you are going thru all this negative stuff. It's all so challenging.

When you're  knocked down and you think it can,t get worse, POW!!

Hopefully, you caught it early (were diagnosed before it got too painful) and are well on your way to feeling better.

am 20 months into PMR. I still have little understanding and find out about about my limitations by trial and punishment.

i can't rely on my rheumatologist, and am so thankful to the folks in this forum.

inever heard of PMR, prior to diagnosis, and if it weren't for these informed,

sharing people, I  am sure I'd be mentally out of control.

As I understand it, prednisone breaks down the immune system, and makes the body receptive to all types of autoimmune diseases

i contracted shingles, a year ago, didn't recognize the symptoms right away, so it hung on a bit longer. I was very lucky, though, as it lodged in my eye and there was an excellent chance I could lose my vision, but I didn't,'t.

i know there is a chance shingles will return, but I know how to recognize the symptoms and respond immediately.

At least shingles follows a logical pathway, whereas PMR is a mystery to me, and changes at every turn.

i wish you a speedy recovery,, and a healthier , happy new year

Barb

Hello jean b am sorry to hear about your shingles and I wish you well on that front. I haven't had shingles but because of the Pred and my immune system being compromised because of it I have got a terrible ear infection that is causing me grief. I am on my third lot of different meds to try and clear it up. But looking on the bright side I don't have the pain to go with it, as i would if I wasn't on pred

Hang in there and we are all thinking of you. At times it does seem that it is one thing after another and can become very wearing. This forum is a great place as I have found other things that other people also have and that in itself is heartening I am a newie to this sight but have found it great

Take care febe
