PMR, Prednisone, Bone Density

Not sure if I posted my DEX scan bone density from July. My rheumatologist wants me to take Methotrexate to help reduce my prednisone (2-1/2 yrs. on prednisone)...now at 8-1/2.

Dex results: T-score = o.6 SD, Z-score = 2.4 SD

"There has been a statistically significant interval increase in bone mineral density of 3.3% since the previous study."

Since I am exercising quite a bit less over the last 2+ years, I would credit the calcium and Vitamin D For the increase..?

Actonel (for bone density) was recommended, but I decided not to take it.  Just more info for the hopper😊

Looking at the little bit of information you have I see no reason why a doctor would recommend an osteoporosis drug for you.  You seem to be doing brilliantly without such intervention.  Good for you!

If you can start to do a bit of weight bearing exercise you'll do even better.  Can you go for short walks?

I do play tennis 2x a week, play golf...walking 9, riding 9...yoga..."running" errands...no weight bearing per se. I know that would be a good idea.

I have to,erased the prednisone pretty well...some setbacks...but I don't want to risk side effects from the bone density drug, or Methotrexate.

thanks!

Haha - I thought you said you didn't exercise as much as you used to!  You must have been extremely active before!!!
