Hi all fellow sufferers,
I have had Polymyalgia for the past 11 months. When I was first put on Steriods I felt wonderful but it didn't last long, I am better than I original was but have some rearly bad days. I started on 20mg and now are down to 6mg.
I first realised something was wrong when I could not touch my nose or cross my arms. Dressing was difficult and still is.
I sometimes wonder what I do one day that makes me feel so much better the next, if I knew I would do it more often. Ha! Ha!
I think the cause of my problem was stress, I have had a few bad years looking after my husband who had a triple heart bypas and mother-in-law who died aged 99 last year at home.
I too have had problems with my Calf muscle in one leg.
Being on my second bout of PMR I really think rest is very important I do overdo things Feel fine then complete exhaustion sets in then I seem to suffer for a few days This time around I have had more aches when I have reduced my steroids and have had to increase a few times Do you have regualar blood tests ? I think they are very important and my Doctor is excellent with this I normally have monthly ones I am about 9 mths in with this bout This time I am going 2 months but I always have a form from her so I can just get one if I need one if Im not sure whether to reduce or not I have just had a bone scan and that was good so we plod on I hope things go well for you The first time I was on steroids for 2 years but this time I think it could be a bit longer Good Luck
Hi Mrs G
It was nice to hear from a fellow sufferer, as I am new to this group.
After reading some of the comments other sufferers has written I think I need to go back to my doctor to ask if I can increase my dosage. I might have come down too far too soon and need to go up for a while.
I had a blood test last week so maybe the results are back now.
I feel I was a lot better before May than I am now when I was on 8mg.
I started with 20mg last August and have gradually come down to 6mg and from the 1st July should be down to 5mg and stay on 5 for the next year.
I think I need a change of plan as I feel really awful, somedays I walk as if I am drunk, my legs wont do as I ask. And I drop things all the time, even light things feel heavy in my hands. I feel as if I am shaking, but only inside my body, nothing to show outside, and my fingers have pins and needles in them.
I feel I have to explain myself when out shopping when I drop things or can't get my money out of my purse but most people have not heard of this compaint.

Hi Spammy and welcome, although I'm sorry yet another sufferer has joined us. You've got my sympathy!
It's probably a good idea to see your doctor again, perhaps you reduced the dose of the steroid a little too quickly. I had that weird 'shaking' feeling for some time last year along with other problems when I was trying to reduce and I had to put up the dose again in the end. I also had that problem with the legs not wanting to move, too.
For about the 4th time I've got down to 5mg daily and am on the point of going a little lower, but I'm doing it very, very slowly. Each time previously I've had a flare-up or other problems and I've had to go right up again - twice to 30mg a day.
I find the heat doesn't help, I think I've melted, and my poor feet .......
they hurt more than the rest of me!
Good luck, take it day by day.
