POLYPECTOMY DURING COLONOSCOPY

Hi...i had a colonoscopy, which went well, and 4 small polyps were removed from the bowel wall. 3 ot the polyps were sucked out and extracted and sent to the lab for analysis. But the 4th small sessile polyp (about 2mm) although removed from the bowel wall, the fragments of it were "lost" and stayed in my colon. The consultant and doctors said this was nothing to worry about as the polyp did look healthy and young (it wasn`t there 2 years ago). They said the loose fragments would pass through my bowel and out of my body at a bowel movement. Try as i might i can find absolutely nothing on this subject (loose polyp stayed in bowel after polypectomy) on google..Any views on this please...and if you find anything on google about this please let me know.

As long as your colon in intact, where else but out with a bowel movement could an unretrieved fragment go??

No, I can't either. However, given the fact it is recent and has no apparent features that give them concern I would myself be inclined to have a repeat colonoscopy after 2 years. If you went privately I would also ask them if you can have access to the photographs. They have on occasions given me a little booklet on these. I would put in writing what you have put here and show it to your next specialist so they take particular care to check. Your enquiry did make me read a couple of more detailed studies on the web about polyp removal (neither of which specifically mentioned your situation) but which did make clear that some polyps are more difficult to remove than others.

Hi Joe

Your quite right...in fact it passed out earlier today...just after i made the post!....thanks!

Hi..thanks for your reply.I have colonoscopies every 2 years anyway as  have Lynch Syndrome and have had bowel cancer twice. I had the colonoscopy with the nhs (uk) and have the photo`s. The " lost" polyp actually passed out in a bowel movement after i made the post. I suppose there is nothing on the web about "lost" polyps means its nothing to worry about. Colonoscopies aren`t too bad its the prep for 2 days before that i hate...but its all worth it!
