back in 2015 i was diagnosed with genital herpes, which im assuming was by a PCR test. The results were confusing as it said not detected in the range, but positive. I had a sore on the inner labia which i assumed I got from wearing tight clothes. 4 years later i decided to do the IGG test. my parnter shows no symptoms and we had sex the day before i was diagnosed. i did not take anti virals and did not get blisters. I do suffer from yeast infections and assumed that was due to herpes. My partner and I broke up 6 months ago and i decided to take an IGG test. my results are negative for both HSV1 and HSV 2. does this mean i dont have herpes? i heard you would always test positive once you carry the virus, but my results are negative.
the chance that a pcr test is false positive is less likely than the chance that a bloodtest fails to detect antibodies
however based on your story and that you havent really had further outbreaks it seems, i would test again to get more certainty…
not detected but positive does seem kind of strange some people don’t test positive on the igG which is really scary but you could do the Western blot that’s a more accurate test and itll pick it up if you truly are infected
i got my negative results on Tuesday. Friday afternoon i got a call from my doctor letting me know that they messed up my results. now i am positive for both. I don’t remember getting cold sores as a child. i called the test lab and she said one was negative, but the other one was positive. she couldnt say which one, but im waiting for a copy. Its so hard to think you’re free from something and then have it snatched from your hands. i wish there was a cure
