I recently had a culture done for a few pinsize lesions I had. The same day, I have blood work done, both ImG and IgG for hsv1&hsv2. My swab came back positive for hsv2,m. My IgG came back positive for hsv1 (very high, around 50.0 because I’ve had cold sores since I was young and had one last month) and negative for hsv2 (anything >.90 is negative, mine was .45). Does this mean the infection is new and I was infected by my most recent partner? We had sex 3 times (Dec. 26th, Jan. 1st, and once between then and the 10th, just can’t remember the date). I noticed the outbreak on the 17th and had them cultured the next day. Does the negative blood test means he is the person who gave it to me? My last encounter with someone else was 11 weeks before the blood test and that was a monogamous relationship that began 7 months before that. Help!
I've pondered with those same questions when I tested positive last year. It really doesn't matter, the one that your with now should be notified and just start taking care of yourself, I couldn't start pointing fingers, all I knew was that I needed help.
Hi Mac, I had similar results. I tested positive to swab and negative to IgG. My doctor told me that due to my results I must have acquired the virus within a month’s time. I did some research on my own as well and found that your body needs time to make antigens for the virus (to appear in an IgG) and this can take up to 12-16 weeks but usually no longer than that.
My current partner got tested yesterday (though he has never had symptoms) and we’re waiting on his results (we’ve been monogomous for 8 months). If he comes back negative it will really make things confusing...
But ultimately danielle is right, it’s best not to point fingers and rather focus on the future and caring for yourself and your partners. Though I can’t help but try to play detective in all of this too.
Good luck
@mac15495, So just to follow up on my previous response, my boyfriend of 8 months tested positive for HSV1.
So unfortunately he had the virus and was unaware (asymptomatic). And now we both do...![]()
I recently read somewhere that on average couples who begin engaging in unprotected sexual activity (where one is unknowingly a carrier), takes around 60 days for transmission to occur to the uninfected partner.
This also depends of frequency of sexual activity. (http://www.ashasexualhealth.org/stdsstis/herpes/a/).
Just wanted to share my new knowledge. My Dx is still fresh (a week ago) so I've been continuously learning what I wish I had already known : / oh well!
