Possible Anxiety Issues! Help

I am 38 years old been a smoker for 20. Had blood work and all kinds of tests earlier this year for labyrinthitus which is a middle ear infection. Everything came back normal with tests and the infection has since left. I work full time and I am going to school almost full time. Yes it can be stressful I suppose. I had bouts with anxiety years ago but was able to control it. Lately  i think the anxiety just came on and has not left. My breathing seems to be shallow almost while at work and school. The funny thing is I can exercise and I have no shortness of breath. Yet when i am having a conversation i feel winded sometimes.I feel a burn when I breath low in my throat area and feels like it's around my right lung at times. Thinking maybe acid reflux as my doc told me I had a few years back. I am worried that maybe my smoking did something to my breathing or maybe it's just anxiety. Hate going to the docs because they always say cut back on caffeine, smokes, exercise more blah blah. Also occasionally my legs will  get weak and my hands shake. Seems like rooms get brighter for no reason at all. Anyone else have any of this?

I should get a scan of your lungs just in case there is something lurking there.

True but I just did another workout and my breathing was just fine and no pain. Starting to think it's anxiety. Took a couple tests and they said my level is extremely high.ugh

sometimes anxiety just hits you at any time doesn't it

Hey Magnets,

I have to quick two habits in the next three weeks - Smoking and drinking. I feel like I love both habits, but I quit smoking for five years years ago and felt great after a while. Like an idiot I started again and have been smoking again for 1o years. I have convinced myself I enjoy it. (I know it's BS I swim a mile a day still without a problem. but feel other effects of the smoking.  I still drink 8 cups of coffee a day but I'm kicking one habit at a time. If I try to do too much at once I will fail. Trust me after a whilr that smoke we think we enjoy with our coffee will go away!!

Charlie my advice would be to quit one at a time. Drinking I would quit first. When I got sober the only thing that helped to keep me balanced was a smoke. Coffee and booze are both triggers for cigarettes. Anxiety is sure to come with the stoppage of drinking. Mostly comes in the firm of cravings. Trying to quit all 3 at the same time is usually too much for an addict. Just advice from someone who has been there. Smoking is what I need to quit next

Yes it does and it's frustrating

completly agree. drinking had to stop cold turkey asap toxic with my meds.

Well good drinking will not only kill u but every relationship that u may have. Lol now the smoking is going to be tough because I am struggling with that as well

Remember once the addictive chemicals from smoking are out of your system. It's all mental. Tell yourself If I pick up it's because I want to smoke more than I don't want too. I quit for 5 years and picked up, I also went 5 years without drinking and thought I was better, but if you have alcoholism it's a progressive DIEASE and once you start drinking again you end up VERY shortly where you were  you left off when you quit.
