Possibly infected for 6 weeks no outbreak

Hello all,

So I was possibily exposed to HSV-2 about 6 weeks ago. After the fact I was showing the flu like symptoms including fever for about 5-6 days afterwards. But I did not have any noticeable sores or ulcers develop. There was "tingling" around my genitals, but the doctor gave me a anti-fungal cream and that seemed to relieve it.

Last week I had to stay up very late for work. Afterwards, I had the same constellation of symtoms, fever, fatigue, muscle aches, and the tingling returned.  It took again about 7 days for it to completely go away.. But I still haven't had a really painful or noticeable outbreak...

My question is, if there are no sores to test, and blood tests aren't reliable for another 6 weeks. What should I be doing? Should I go to the doctor and get on Anti-virals anyway? I haven't been officially diagnosed, but I don't really think this could be anything other than HSV-2 at the moment. Thanks in advance!

The only reason I took antiviral meds was because of one sore on my upper penis. In my opinion you should take antiviral meds to help prevent future outbreaks and severity of an herpes attack. Apparently I had HSV 1-2 from past exposure with some noticeable signs and symptoms but never related it to herpes. Then I was reexposed from sexual contact and this time almost immediately developed a sore on penis with malaise, extreme pain in lower back, left buttock, thigh and knee. I could not even walk on treadmill. After my first observable attack I had another 3 months latter with Schambergs disease mostly on left leg and above both knees. No pain or tingling on penis except a small sore with the pubic hair hiding it. If I would not of looked I would not of noticed it. The only reason I looked, because one day i felt under the weather and with everything else going on I suspected it was a herpes attack unfortunately. Thank god the sore was not as bad as last time, but the orange itchy rash freaked me out., also At least very little pain in joints. You should get tested anyway like I did.

If you ever get a  open sore have it cultured immediately to confirm if herpes and what type. I waited to long the first time and this time it had a scab on it already.  It would be a good time for me to be tested again. When I saw the doctor twice this week I didnot know I had a sore on penis. Looks like I will go see the doctor again on Monday.

Well I'm going to see the doctor on Wednesday. I've had hsv-1 for about my whole life and have really only had 1-2 outbreaks. So maybe my body is just really good at suppressing outbreaks of this nature...I have no idea.

What are the side effects of the antivirals? I'm an athlete and I don't really want anything that is going to hinder my athletic performance. Thanks
