So around 2 years ago I was treated for h plyori. A couple months later i felt great. I was able to eat everything. But then i started getting stomach burn and acid reflux again. After taking ppis for about a month the pain went away once again. 3 months ago I started getting extreme bloating, sometimes burning and acid reflux. So i went to the doctor and got an endoscopy and breath test. Everything came out negative! No stomach cancer, h plyori and not even gastritis. Something is definitely wrong with my stomach as i am quickly losing weight while i feel like i am eating enough to at least maintain my weight. I am on pantoprazole 40 mg a day. My doctor says i have ibs (i believe the ppi caused it) and cant figure out whats wrong with my stomach. Please help!
Does your pain move about and do you have change of bowel habit? Does any food or stress trigger symptoms? These are also key factors in IBS as well as heartburn and bloating. It is also possible that the strong medications you took sensitised your stomach and caused IBS. However, since your doctor has diagnosed IBS, I would trust your doctor and accept your diagnosis. Do not worry about what caused your IBS, worry will make you feel worse. Instead, ask your doctor for an antispasmodic, monitor your diet and try to relax. IBS is likely to be what is wrong with your stomach.
Thanks for the reply. Actually yes, sometimes I get D and sometimes I get normal stools. Does IBS generally cause symptoms including bloating and acid reflux?
Yes, bloating and acid reflux are common with IBS. Sometimes, PPIs can cause bloating too. Maybe try an over the counter antacid instead which is milder on the stomach.
