four weeks post bunion and hammer toe surgery and my foot still looks a lot bigger (up to 25% bigger I estimate) than the other. Is this swelling normal and a feeling of tightness and stiffness in the toes? It feels like I have a ball under my foot!. Does this improve in time?
My operation was done on 5th February this year and my foot is still badly swollen
Hi John had my first foot done on 30/1/2015 and still get swelling. It has started to be less and less but was on holiday in may and it was so fat by the end of the day and wasn't doing much walking all part of the healing proccess think it takes up to 6 months before it settles.
Hi Shona did you get a feeling of tightness and stiffness in the toes and a swollen feeling under the toes?
Yes couldn't actually move my toes for weeks and under my foot was very swollen also my ankle was so painful. Looked like a hobit foot lol!
Thanks Shona. It helps to know that the symptoms are normal.
Hi John I only had one toe done due to it being dislocated. I am now approx 6 months on and it still feels odd some days. I can get into most of my shoes but I still wear my trainers for walking about. I have arthritis in both feet as well which can make them ache after exercise. It should improve for you but it is a long job. You must still have stitches in I am presuming. You have to be patient I am afraid I was told it can take upto 12 months for complete healing. Good luck
hi John i had a double bunion removal and hammer toe straightened on the 11th May.... i can so relate to what you are saying, my feet seem like big square boxes, my big toes are still and i too feel like i have two swollen balls under my feet which are all so sore.... i have been told this is normal as the swelling can take as long as six months to start to improve... i must admit this has been one of the most painful experiences i have ever had.... i had to have it done because walking would of proved difficult in later years... but i have said so many times i dont think i would of had it done had i known the pain and discomfort of it all..... you will be ok john, but like me we just have to be patient.
Yes quite normal, my foot is still swollen 15!weeks on, but going down.. Worse at night....
