I had a Bunionectomy and bone fusion surgery 8 weeks ago. I am now out of my boot and walking short distances in thick socks and ugg like boots which keeps the foot secure. I have no pain from the Bunionectomy at all and it has healed remarkably well. Strangely I am feeling discomfort and pain when I walk on the other side of the foot. Is this where the ligaments and muscles have weakened from not walking on the foot for 8 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi there,
Very often without realising sub concisely we bear weight when walking onto the side of foot almost as to protect the area that was operated on. I found myself doing that both times post surgery, but obviously do speak to your surgeon/GP if you have concerns.

Hi, Sue. I am no expert but I suspect that this is because you are not walking correctly and are putting the weight on the wrong side of the foot. Perhaps this could be because joint is stiff after your op. I find that I am getting discomfort through the outer part of one foot. The other is fine. One of my feet has recovered a bit better than the other at this point and I am aware that on the right foot that I am not walking proper
yet (8 weeks tomorrow) . Have had one physio session which has resulted in some improvement but am having a second session next week. Hope that this helps
Yes, totally. You will have discomfort all over your foot at times. I'm five months out and have it on the bottom of my big toe, no where near where the surgery was performed. I have had it on sides of foot, and the bottom of my foot at various times. This is all very normal. They tell us it takes 6 weeks of no weight bearing, but really it's months more of various pains and twitches. Don't worry. One of my friends is swollen at nine months after her procedure, and mine is still swollen and hurting occasionally.
