Post Op check up

Hi, I am so pleased to have found this site as it has answered so many of my questions and made me feel that I am not alone.. thank you.

I had "sacrospinous colpopexy anterior and posterior repair" almost 4 weeks ago.  Having read posts on here I realised that I do not have a date for a post op check up.  I have just contacted the hospital and they advised that it is not usual to have one and asked me if I felt I needed one? I know it's the NHS but I did not expect them to ask this, I told them that I have never had the op before and thought a check up would be needed to ensure I am healing correctly etc?

They advised they will send my paperwork to the consultant and ask if he needs to see me and that his secretary will phone me either way.

Reading the posts on here everything I am going through seems "normal", discharge, pains etc but I am suprised that they question a check up appointment.... what to you think I should say when the secretary phones me back?   Thanks

Hi

I find that very strange! I will have a check up on 13th April which will be 7 weeks post op. Mine wasn't NHS but I'm sure ladies on here who were have a post op check up. It's a big op to have without a follow up . I'd tell them you're worried you haven't healed properly and need an appointment xx

I had the same operation as you 7 weeks ago and my recovery seems to have gone really well. I just had some  bad buttock pain in the first 2 weeks, but otherwise I have felt great. I have a post op. NHS appointment booked for 3 months with my Consultant, which is still a way off , as its in May, but I think you should have one with yours, for peace of mind that you have healed okay and that all is as it should be. Best wishes.

Hi

I would insist I see someone, it is really difficult to be sure not overdoing thongs. I didn't see someone my 1st time I had a hysterectomy and anterior repair until almost a year after op. By then my repair had started to prolapse and now 3 years on needed to have the anterior repair redone as well as a posterior repair as well!

I don't really know why my prolapse recurred but I was never sure if I was healing properly or if I was overdoing things or if I went back to work to quickly. At least if you see someone it can put your mind at rest or have some kind of check in place if you need to slow down! I am not returning to work this time until my consultant gives me the OK! I do not want to go through this a 3Rd time if I can help it.

Phyl xx

What did your discharge paper say? Normally on there it says if you are to be seen for post op check or discharged back to the care of GP. I would have thought a followup appt would be the norm. Tell the secretary you have been waiting for followup appt.  If you need to go back to consultant ask GP to refer you back to them if you are not feeling happy and well.

Thanks I will do that xx

Thanks, I think it would give me peace of mind that I am healing ok. x

Thank you Phyl.  It has been such a struggle to get to this stage.  I need to make sure I am healing properly and that I don't overdo things and return to work to soon.  Thanks x

When I was discharged from hospital the nurses said I would receive a follow up appointment at 4 week point.  I have not received to date.  Discharge paperwork says f/up with uro-gynae nurses and then further on no follow up needed back to care of GP.

I think having read posts on here that a follow up appoint would be the norm.  I think I have possibly have lost faith/confidence in my GP as they would not refer me to see a gynae even though I did ask and presented with classic prolapse symptoms.

Long story short they insisted I did not have a prolapse and referred me to the continence team, I thought I would be getting further assessment / physio etc from this team but they just offered me continence pads.  I felt as though they just wrote me of as doubly incontinent at 52..... sorry I'm having a bit of a moment.....

I paid to see a gynae private who diagnosed my prolapse womb, bladder and bowel and referred me for surgery via NHS.

All seems to be healing ok, this site help and advice is a great help. I think a follow up will give me peace of mind.

I'm 3wks 4 days into my recovery, my follow up appointment is in August!!!! Was told if i had any concerns to ring them or see gp....great hey! Was getting worked up and upset with myself and had a few worries....then I came across this great site, reassure me no end xx

I'm 3 weeks 3 days Sotheby's same as you Amchattand my follow up is mid April. August is ridiculous xx

Not Sotheby's omg! Bloody predictive text lol xx

same time scale as me I had op 22 Feb.... I know this site is really good for reassurance and to know you are not alone.  Good luck with your recovery and your follow up appointment.  Are you in the UK too? xx

Yeah I'm in the UK sam date for our ops too...good luck with your recovery too x

Thank you....Did you have the same surgery too? It's strange how care and support varies from area to area with NHS....  I will deffo ask for a follow up.  I've been fine up to now just having a bit of a down day today and getting frustrated with myself and recovery.xx

I had the A&P repair surgery, was given minimum care advice when. Was discharged but was just glad to be going home to question it at the time.  I was to,dnI would get a telephone call from someone to check on me but that is yet to happen. I have to go to my gp next week for sick note for work, will ask him if I should see someone before August!

i have had quite a few down days, try to keep a brave face on me but sometimes its all too much! Thsi site will be my salvation x

Hi,that is really weird.

I had an anterior wall repair on December and consultant said I will have a check up in 3 months time, so I got a letter and I have app on April. Gosh I would be so worry not seeing someone to confirm everything healing well, now its over 12 weeks and I still no intercourse,no tampons etc. because I want to hear Iam completly recover.

My advise demand for appointment.

Good luck 😊

Aww good luck with everything. xxx

Thanks agi6, I will defo ask for the follow up appointment. Good luck with your recovery too xx

I haven't had a follow up from op   in November. Told it is not necessary!
