Post op day 9

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and hope you are all well on the road to recovery.   I had my right thr on Monday 24th Nov had my left done about 4 years ago, so was back home by Wed 26th and had physio and nurse come out to see me a couple of times.  So far everything seems to be ticking along nicely only on paracetamol morning and evening now. Allowed to use just one crutch indoors which makes life so much easier. Doing my exercises arent too bad but am finding it putting a bit of extra straing on my other leg dont think the muscles quite recovered proberly from thr on it.

Thats a super fast recovery.  I shouldn't wonder that the other leg is compensating - you are speeding ahead.  I am 13 months on and had a bad recovery and notice the muscle weakness all too much now.  I would encourage you to be religiously following the exercises to build up that muscle on the operated side.  Sounds like it'll be a bagatelle for you.  Even patients with the speediest of recoveries on here take a minimum of 6 - 8 weeks, so be patient (pun inintended ha ha)

Hi,

That's pretty normal from what I have heard. I am 9 wks post THR and really have to be conscience of the stress I put on my "good" hip. Worked it so hard pre and post surgery, I was afraid of damaging it too it was hurting so bad. I even pulled a muscle over it. I treated it with a heating pad, icyhot and ibuprophen. It feels much better but I now try to use both hips equally. I know it's too soon for you to do that, but with your crutch hopefully you can equal it out soon. Just take it real easy and make sure you are using the crutch properly. Sometimes I even used both crutches just to give it a rest.  My operative hip still hurts when I first stand up, but after a few steps the pain goes away and sometimes even forget I had the surgery! I have been off pain meds since week two. Everyday gets better.

Hang in there.

So happy that you are doing well!  Yay!  And yes, your other leg is taking a beating in the compensation department, but it will gain more strength soon and using that crutch will help it also.

Wishing you continued healing without any complications!

Oh, and I forgot to mention..make sure you exercise both legs equally if you aren't already doing that.

So glad you are doing so well too Kathee!
