Hi. Have been using a walking frame for over 6 wks now. The weird thing is my little finger on my right hand has now decided to bend completely to the right hand side. When i try to move it towards the other fingers it starts to bend over towards my palm. Im hoping this is only a temporary thing, maybe caused by weeks of gripping the walker??? Has anybody had a similar experience???
That is perfectly possible, however it is worth getting it checked out in case it is Dupuyrens contracture
There can be an awful lot of downward pressure on your arms-- shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers. I experienced nerve problem in my arm from using my cane and so stopped leaning on it so heavily. I saw slow but steady improvement in the nerve pain which is now gone.
Hi Linda,
Can you not use crutches? In the UK normally we are given crutches as they are easier to walk with. With regard to your hand why not try a hand exerciser ball, it may help your hand.
do you have a thick cord in the palm under the pinky? or maybe a few small nodules in the palm on the cord. this is usually due to collagen build up in the palm from injury or over use and the fingers start to bend out or curl up. in some cases DC runs in families. see online FOR MORE INFO FOR DC.
see a experienced hand surgeon for diagnosis, it could be Dupuytrens Contracture. i had a severe flair from the grips on walkers. i have had DC for many years and frozen shoulder. i switched to the rollinator walker after 6 weeks with a better designed grip this type of walker is so much easier to use for my hands and shoulders. at six weeks you should be able to switch to the rollinator if you require a walker. ask for a RX for a rollinator. or a splint made in therapy is useful for the finger at night until a decision is useful for treatment.. it was very painful and took a few weeks to settle i had developed many preasure nodes in the palms. for relief from pain use gel microwave hand glove or hand spa dip in warm wax to treat. if it is DC i highly recommend XIAFLEX , a injection that breaks up the collagen in the cords and helps the surgeon to straighten the finger. sending good healing wishes your way.
****Hi. Their wasnt a lump last week, but i checked today and theirs a knot like lump just forming between the little finger and its neighbour just near the centre of my palm. Its not painful, just a bit of a nuisance as sometimes I cant grip properly. Im not in a hurry to go to any doctors at the moment, dont need to hear any more bad news just yet. ha ha. Thanks for your response I will get it checked out soon.
I have crutches, but I have an aversion to them at the moment as I was using them when I lost my balance and fell, breaking my femur. Thanks fir your advice.
